Got 62 MPG on the Highway this weekend!

Of course I was driving my 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid, not my Z28. I had about 2 miiles on a fresh tank of gas when I merged onto I-95 in Virgina and fell in behind an 18 wheeler that was doing between 70 and 75mph. I drafted the truck (about 8 feet from its rear bumper) for 30 miles until it got off at an exit. (I doubt it even knew I was back there). It felt like it was pulling me down the highway. When the truck finally exited the highway my car was showing 62.2 MPG. By the time I reached where I was going (about 37 more miles), the mileage droped to 56. Still not too bad.

I normally get 51 if I drive between 60-65 and let it slow down a little going up hills. The EPA estimates are 48 city and 47 highway, but if you adjust your driving habits to take full advantage of the Hybird technology you can get better (except in the winter - it really doesn't like the cold). Its like a video game now.. trying to get the 'high score'.

I try that when I drive... except for me, the high score is hours instead of gallons

I have done the same thing in my Dodge Ram 4x4 reg cab long bed with a hemi. I drafted a few big rigs and was able to get as high as 23mph out of my truck.

Pretty close - the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) is rated at 85hp including the Integrated Motor Assist (electric motor) which adds 13 hp. Without the Electric motor, the ICE only produces 72HP. Of course, I could add a fart can exhaust, huge wing on the back and some chinese letter stickers and boost the HP to at least 300hp.

The interesting part about the engine is it has 8 spark plugs and 10.8:1 compression. I don't know how it coul dhave that high a compression ratio and still run best on 87 gas, but it does.
