    good deal? $4000 1971 Chevelle.

aside from the dehydrated baby-piss yellow paint, would it be worth it?

Yes, that is a very good deal provided that the body is not bondo'd or rusted out.

Check the quarter panels, floor and trunk for rust/bondo. If its straight and clean, ya, its a smokin deal.

'71 is my favorite year- bought one years ago and sold it when I bought my first house. Great car.

Look in the bottom of the quarters and in the bottom corner of the rear window. They're prone to rust under the trim and cause leaks into the trunk.

$4k isn't a bad deal at all for a big block car, even if it's not a factory BB car. This one is probably a factory Malibu. Look on the C-pillars and see if you can see where it would have had the vinyl roof- look where the trim would have been.

    Sadly now demodded :(

It has the wrong grill to be an SS. Check for round pod vs sweep speedo. Sweep speedo is Malibu. Also, disk brakes were an option so check for that also. I've had a 66, 69 (SS396), 70 and 72 Chevelles. The 3 were Malibu's.

Take a refrigerator magnet to check for bondo. "If it's too thick then it won't stick"...

70 was my favorite year with the LS6. I inherited (spell?/drinking) the 68 Malibu from my brother when he passed. I know its got a 327 with Camel Hump heads, cam, exhaust, etc.... Doesn't need that much to get going but financially I'm stuck at the moment. Car is in storage.

Thanks I know it was all forged and set up for a 250 shot of pills. I sold the pills about 3 years ago for parts for my Maro Believe it just needs a distributor shaft since it broke but metal may be in the motor and not worth grenading it. It won't leave the family that is 100% damn sure

Nawww, not really...........maybe a way to compare would be:

    Camaro Berlinetta < Camaro SS
    Chevelle Malibu < Chevelle SS

    ...I hope this helps...

A 68 Malibu would be rare if it had the L79 engine as that was the last year for that option. This engine (327/325 for 68) was only available with a manual tranny and 12 bolt rear. A friend of mine has a 68 El Camino with this setup. It also has bucket seats with a console but with a sweep speedo. For all intents and purposes it was a small block SS without badges.

Guy said the motor has been bored to a 403 my only thing is the 396 after 69' was really 402cu so if it was bored it would put it well over 403? Probably nothing to worry about it's just I'd think the guy would know that about his car?
