Going to school to learn how to weld.
Course will take approx. 1 yr to finish. What do I need to be cert. in to get a good paying job? Do I want pipe welding or mig in a factory. I can pretty much learn anything, I just want what pays the most. People say tig is the best to learn. I have never welded in my life, but it doesn't look that complicated. If any of u have any cert. give me a heads up on what the job market is looking for.

Well my welding teacher in high school teaches us everything but pipe welding, but he says that if you want to make money welding that that is what to do. Tulsa welding school came and talked to our welding class about their school, and it sounds like they teach everything you need to know and hava pretty good placement program

i have had 4 weeks of training in welding. My course's included, mig, stick, plasma cutting and acetaline cutting. I have never tig welded before, it is def. the most difficult weld to perform. At Caterpillar where i work, all the welders know how to do all types of welding. Strictly because they are asked to do all sorts of jobs. Usually if you get a job as a welder, you need to be able to perform all of the above. Most common will probally be Mig. But it really depends where you go to get the job. Good luck!

well it's a 600 Hr course. 4 nights a week 5-9:30, so it's not like im putting in 8 hrs a day. Plus no classes in the summer. The instructor is from what i hear a bad ass welder. He welded on the bathascath, if u know what that is, and the Edmound Fitzgearald. Cost is about 5k but, I should learn something. maybe i'll start making some custom LS1 headers... who knows.

I agree a year sounds long, but what the hell. I wish I would have become a welder. Did it for 4 years in Highschool, became pretty decent. I don't know about all of you other fellas, but I thought it was quite fun.

I was just saying machines are doing more and more ... If you can get into something that has you setting something up with a computer or robots and you have a cert in it , it is more of a job you can grow old with ..
