GM- Same old, stupid company
So I call the dealership about a water pump for my '96 Trans Am.
They quote me $430! So I'm like, WTF?? I check the forums, read up, then head to the auto parts store and get one for $140.
This is a $6000 car that I drive on weekends. Its not a daily driver, and its not going to make any difference if the water pump is GM or not. I would like for the car to have the GM certified water pump--but not for an extra $300!!
And if this 14-year-old car was my daily driver, it would mean that I'm kinda poor, in which case I would also go with the $140 pump rather than the GM part.
So what is different about GM, post bankruptcy? Apparently they are still a bullsh@t company with HORRIBLE marketing/selling practices. Do they just not want to sell any parts for their older vehicles?
Do they want people like me to go online and flame them? Because that's what they've accomplished.

Ummm so why not sell all your vehicles and buy a camry. They owned around 20% of Subaru when your's was built. Btw usually buying anypart at a dealer is an ass rape regardless of who's name is on it so stfu and go praise odumbo

You do get what you pay for, the GM pump should be way better than the Autozone Chinese pump. There probably is not a $300 difference but I bet it will fit the car much better and last longer.

This is WHY I shop eBay. I bought my pump and radiator for cheaper. Cost me $125 for the pump install and another $125 for the radiator install.

Checked the dealership for synchros for my t-56 - their cost $300+ a piece. That makes over a grand in just synchros in that tranny, doesn't count gears, seals, shafts, ect.. Guess that means I've got a $15,000 transmission in my car by their costs.
