GM Doubles Overseas Production
Lemme see if I got this right.
American Taxpayers pour BILLIONS into GM.
GM moves all the jobs overseas.
Yeah. I think I got it.

So a Big THANKS goes out to the UAW for pricing American jobs right out of here. But wait! The UAW is giving concessions. Look. They are giving up Viagra. WOW. That's the spirit you dipshit's.

Piss on the UAW. Funny how we hear GM quality sucks and yet, GM dont build the cars the UAW "workers" build them for GM. Dumb bastards. Then the UAW will get "real" serious about making consessions.LOL Good luck livin' on the $100.00 a week pay from strike fund. Cause the unions lookin' out for em.lol Pay dues your whole life to the union, that's breaking the back of the company you work for. But hell they got good benefits! Oh wait those will be gone too. Another win for the unions.............China-Mart got cardboard boxes real cheap. Maybe the UAW will hand them out as temperary housing huh? Oh damn' wait cardboard boxes for the thousands they've put out off work will cost the UAW big wigs their tee times! Shit! Guess they'll have to hit up the strick fund. FORE!!!!!

im not a business major but how the hell does that better our economy if theres less jobs for americans? Wouldnt lowering the rate that the workers get paid and getting rid of the UAW but having more vehicles built here boost our economy? Building the cars in china and south korea will do wonders for the quality perception too.... Fucking GM brass just doesnt get it. They need to clean out the entire upper management of that company.

the failure of the big 3 has been years in the making man, this didnt just happen overnight, and i have no idea how you could possibly tie Obama into this. Maybe his ideas will improve this stuff maybe it wont. But they wouldnt be where they are right now if the guys that were in charge did their job well. If you were in his shoes what would you do? Would it work? Its a colossal problem of giant proportions

The company (like most) wants to make profits.
One way of increasing profits is cutting costs.
One way of cutting costs is by outsourcing labor.
Outsourcing labor works because the people employed overseas are generally working to survive and provide for their family, rather than being lazy overpaid morons.
A company looks at things like this in a strictly financial matter. They don't care if they're being "unpatriotic" or whatever someone calls them.

i totally agree with what you are saying about dropping costs, but i'd like to see what getting rid of the union and dropping the pay rates of the workers would do while keeping the production in this country. That way all the people that are auto workers that still want to be dont lose their job, they just get paid what they should get paid. Think about all the people that will be out of work with a plan like this? What else can they do?

it definitely IFURIATES me that they would get paid what they did for a simple tax thats nearly automated to begin with. The irony is the technicians that repair their fuckups get way less per hour and they basically have to know the entire car not just how to use push clips on a bumper cover.

Well I guess I get to ruffle some feathers... lol
after working for both a union shop and a non-union shop within the same company I would have to say I would much rather work Union. What you guys don't seem to understand is it is not about money..... That's simply the easiest target. It's about power and the company doing whatever it wants even if it goes against it's own rules it is supposed to enforce.
Not all unions are the same. I would much rather have some sort of security and less pay then to be a at will employee. I have seen people fired for absolute BS.
For instance our shop is supposed to lay people off according to senority. Well they don't. They laid off highly skilled long term employees simply because they did not want to take the time to train them for another job. They throw their own rulebook out the window on a daily basis. This is one of the things unions enforce. At least with a union the worker has someone on their side when a dispute arises.
Of course their are negatives...... But as far as all the people bitching about unions, I don't think any of them actually work for the big 3 etc... So to just ASSUME that all these people are lazy etc, is just way off base.
My job union and non-union has not changed at all. I've never been lazy

You make good points and I always enjoy your perspective. I also never intend on insulting you directly, because I do know what its like to be judged as well. Im an auto technician and people hate auto techs too. But the one major gripe I have about the UAW is the absurd hourly rates that the workers get paid for simple monotonous tasks. That union is the reason. I find it unfair that I have to work for 15-16.50 and hour and expected to know several entire cars at a time or troubleshoot and or figure them out, while someone working in a plant that makes one or 2 different models might do just a small piece of a car over and over again and make way more money
Kudos to you for working hard, but not everybody that does your job does. Hell there was video of workers that got posted on here, on the clock but at the bar at like 11 in the morning. I think they were building Ford trucks. Now how the fuck is that right?

GM should just get rid of the UAW. Then hire all the illegal immigrants to work for them. Quality will go up and the cost of the cars will go down. Then the all the UAW will have to start learning how to roof.

Thanks Stanger... Sometimes I feel like I am the only one fighting the good fight. I mean I honestly see it from both sides but My heart will always be on the side of the working man.
I just don't understand why someone is so upset with what someone else earns in their job? True GM workers make good money but at the same time lots of sacrifices. Lots of health problems associated with doing the repetitive jobs etc.
Don't forget the company agreed to pay them what they make. I'm sure GM did not plan on being in the position it is in now. when the gm and uaw work togther they can come out of it stronger.
I've never said someone makes too much money for what they do... Especially a shop worker. For instance when I first started out in my company I was working along side people who made much more money then me... IS it right to be paid less for doing the same exact job as someone else. Granted length of service should play a role but with the union everone makes the same and this eliminates the bullshit between employees of he makes more money then me Bullshit.
I never once had to call my union rep because I just try and do my job without the BS
I had this convo with this guy at work and he was bitchin about what GM worker makes when technically it is only about $8 more an hour then us. He goes on and on about how many toys they have etc.... I was like ya know some guy working at walmart is looking at you saying the same thing man. Like he diden't understand the concept... I asked him how many toys he had... and he says none... like he is just barely making it... Well lots of GM guys are in the same position as you... Barely making it.
Look at the American axle strike.... If you guys recall that. The company made over $300 million in profit and they wanted to cut their employees wages in half basically. They earned GM style wages and they wanted to take them down to $14 an hr..... Now what would you do in that situation?
Ohh yeah, that old saying.... "well at least you got a job"
You can always find someone to do YOUR job cheaper...... their is always an alternative. DOn't think your special and you have an unreplaceable trade because your only lying to yourself. So I guess we got to do what we can to protect our jobs. Hell if someone can do my job cheaper... Let em have it...... I'm being paid what I am worth.Last edited by knightryda01; 05-09-2009 at 10:16 AM. Reason: blah
