Gas stations
they cannot legally put a hold for $65 on a credit card can they? especially on a $10 purchase?
i thought they were only suppose to do $1 holds, and then charge again after pumping the full amount, minus $1????

I think they can. They don't actually charge the card. They just get authorization for an amount.

I wouldn't think they can.
**EDIT** If it's a $65 authorization, but the purchase is now completed & it was only for $10, ther's a problem.

yeah tell me about it, i just got charged $64 for NSF fee's because i bought $10 worth of gas, they authorized $65, that got denied, then authorized for another $10, and that got denied cause i was in the hole by $35 because of their $65 authorization.....
fighting with the bank now about it, cause its now going to yank money out of my savings, and charge me for that too, which will bounce my car payment....so then theres another $32 fee, and a bounced check.
im furious.

Yes they can here in FL and just about every gas station they have a sign on the pump saying there may be a $65 hold on your account. I have not had it happen.

They are supposed to warn you about that they showed it on the news here because elderly people were getting screwed because they did not know the account had the 65$ hold.
I usually stay away from those gas stations or just draw the gas money out from my bank in cash at the beginning of the week.

I know it's too late but, couldn't you pump and then go inside and pay with your card?
