Found graves in the back yard...
My stepbrother left one of their toys about 400 foot from the house and my father went to pick it up and stumpled over some rocks.. The rocks were all in the shape of a grave. Started raking around the area and we keep finding more rocks and some OLD ass bricks that looks like they are headstones...
I dont know if they are slave graves or civil war graves because we have both of them close by already within a 1 or 2 mile radius.
I took the metal dectector to it and it went apeshit..
Could I get a university to come and use ground radar?

We found a shitload of old graves around Dale Hollow lake but everyone knew about them so there was nothing to find. Here's my take on it: if you call someone to investigate, they will dig everything up anyway. If YOU do a little digging and find something of value, then good for you! If it were me, I would go to it. If I found a crapload of old bones before I found any rich stuff, then I'd stop and call the cops. You don't know if they are old graves unless you have proof.

Bricks were not used for graves... If there are bricks I think you might have some old foundation remnants, and perhaps some old metal objects causing the metal detector to go off...
My Mom's house does have graves behind it, 14 of them to be exact... Little granite headstones and mounds...

i'd look at it a little more closely and try to determine what it really is. If you call the university, they should at least be able to give you advice if you aren't sure what to do. I'm sure a curious professor would come take a look if they are local enough. You'de get the finders credit anyway.

Ya, definately do research first. Calling up a university or whatever on a hunch is prolly not the wisest thing considering no one is gonna investigate that shit for free. Could end up being a big ol waste of time and money.

Take a shit on one of the headstones, if nothing happens to you within a week, probably a safe bet you can dig them up without worrying about ghosts or spooky stuff.

First thing a University is going to want to do, is dig them up for DNA testing and study. That happened up here in PA. on a friends ground. A person from a research center, and one from the Historcal Society got permission to check out some possible indian graves and old camp site. Next thing he knew there were machines all over his ground digin' around everywhere. Found like six arrow heads. Which is funny cause you can find old arrow heads just mowing the grass up here (depending on where you live). Alot of folks who live in the country river valleys, or near a stream here has old indian arrow heads laying around somewhere. They were nice enough to rope off the areas on his ground and he was'nt allowed to enter those sites too! But i guess you never know what they may find.

I'd leave it be...is it really worth digging up old graves from the civil war? I'm sure there are plenty of ghosts around your area already that are pissed off.
