fords new 5.0L
www.leftlanenews.com/ford-coyote-v8.html
think this will actually happen? 400hp and 400 ft\lbs of torque out of a DOHC 5.0L?
they have been hard pressed to achieve around 68hp\L before out of their DOHC mod engines, and now they're stepping up to 80? if they can pull it off, it's a HUGE step up in engine development for ford. or when it comes to actual production will it be putting out around 350 hp.Last edited by big hammer; 05-18-2009 at 05:03 PM.

It's possible but that will probably end up being at the crank. I would imagine they would have to throw in some pretty noticeable cams for that power.

Just because they havent in the past doesnt mean it wasnt possible. They did an underrated 385 out of the 5.4 doch engine in the 00 cobra R and that engine was built to handle more. Look up the "cammer" engine that they did, thats basically what this motor is. That engine i think made around 400 something. So to answer is it possible? If i'm not mistaken they already have. Keep in mind they can spin that fucker high with a 4valve head.

I'd love to see a 5.0 badge on the fender of a new mustang

I'm looking forward to my test drive since ford is the only "domestic" I'd consider buying now.

Btw, autoblog reported today a ford exec confirmed the 5.0 with "400 hp and nearly 400 ft. lbs."

I believe that was the FR500 Mustang. 415hp and 365tq way back in 2000.
HERE is the C&D test of the car.Last edited by CJREX; 05-18-2009 at 06:54 PM.

400 will be the flywheel numbers. but that is a more than doable thing in the 5.0. yes i do believe the 4.6s have a real hard time compared to us mod for mod but we all know what a little bit more displacement can do. take our 346 ls1 that puts a solid 350hp down at the fly vs the 364 ls2 that puts 400hp. look at the little bit of difference in the c.i.'s. i think ford can do it also if they put enough time and effort into it. and just for the record i am no fan of ford but i dont hate on everything. that is just my realistic opinion.

The biggest shortcoming of the ford modulars had been the small bore size of 3.55 whereas the Ford 5.0/302, most chevy sbc's, lsx motors etc all had 4.00 in bores or bigger. The reason ford has been so limited in bore size is because of the phsyical dimensions of the engine with an OHC head design. You guys ever see how physically large a ford 4.6/5.4 is out of a car? They are monsters for engines that have only 281 cubes of displacement. One of the greatest benefits of an OHV/pushrod design is packaging in addition to the torque and simplicity.
Displacement is one of the easiest ways to increase power of any engine.

the most they could pull off on a DOHC 4.6 was around 68hp\liter. if they make a 400hp 5.0 it will be around 80hp\liter--- not only is that a huge step up for ford, it's a huge step for any stock n\a v8.
is it true? time will tell. maybe it will be severly overrated like 99 cobras.
