White- 2000 Trans Am WS6
First Post
Finally registered and plan to post a few questions and pictures of my cars later. Whenever I Google for information about Trans Ams, WS6s, or LS1s I routinely got referred to this site, among others of course.
Short story is I own two TAs, a '79 SE project that is finally closer to completion rather than disorder and a '00 white WS6. I'm in the US Army and about 3/4s of the way through a year long tour in Iraq. When I get home I'll have a few simple projects I want to complete on my '00. Nothing wild, just simple bolt ons but I'll probably ask for some opinions as to which products are the better (airbox lids and stuff like that). I will probably ask somethings that have been covered plenty of times before but since I'm doing the 24/7 Army thing right now the time I have to thoroughly search the forums is kind of limited. So, basically, try not to be too annoyed if I posted something that's been covered extensively. Browsing the forum the past couple of days I've noticed some fairly silly recurring questions and I can see how that might get irritating and I don't plan on asking very obvious or mundane questions.
I bought my WS6 in April '05. I paid around $18,000 (I think) and it had about 20,000 miles on it. I consider myself pretty lucky finding this car. You see about two months prior to that I totalled a my '00 non-WS6 car that I bought in '04 for a little over $16K that had only around 25K miles. I felt extremely lucky when I found that car and was devastated when I destroyed it. Fortunately I healed up pretty quick, pretty much just superficial damage to me, and my insurance paid the car off and then some. I didn't expect to find another bargain.
My short term plans, after I get home, include possibly installing a better lid for the ram air box, modify the stereo to accept an auxillary input, tint the windows, and a few other cosmetic changes.
Possible long term plans, that I'm hesitant to consider due to conflicted thoughts on the wisdom of hacking up a WS6, are modifying the car to accept a double din head unit or maybe even a mobile PC, installing an RK Sportback, intake/header/exhaust swap, wider wheels and tires on a lowered stance, A-pillar pods, etc. Part of the reason I was happy with a non-WS6 was I wasn't worried about modding it.
Well, I have more plans/thoughts to discuss but I'll save it for future posts.
