I always use my e-brake. I have heard that leaving an auto in "P" but not using the e-brake puts stress on the driveline.

It is recommended procedure. This way the car is held in place with the brakes and not the parking pawl in the auto transmission. Sometimes the parking pawl can be very hard to dis-engage, like when parked on a steep hill.

Or it could just be a case of manual transmission envy LOL!

The fact is, that when you are parked on a hill, its nice to not have your entire cars weight sitting on the parking paw. The paw is what catchs and holds your auto tranny when you put it in Park. Thats why they do, and why they should do it.

Was it an auto shifter? With the "T" bar handle at the top? If she got that inside her... I need to see that.

I never use to, but I do it on any sort of incline. It's just extra insurance, it's also kind of a habit. Any miliatary vehicle has to have it's parking break enganged.

There's no harm in doing it, so get over it.

Force of habit from driving a manual for many many years. It's not like I think "I'm on flat ground. I don't need my emergency brake". It's a conditioned response: "put in park (or reverse in my GTO), pull up emergency brake, turn off car/suv/whatever, open door, close door, lock".

Honestly, this really is the stupidest fucking thing to worry about what other people do. Why do you care?
