    Engine stand

Anybody built a engine stand for breaking in new engines? We have run ours for a couple of minutes at a time on the regular engine stand. I wonder what all would be required to do this..

Im thinking.. building a bracket for the radiator, a panel for oil pressure, coolant temp and hooking up an electric pump to circulate the coolant.

    ideas?

gasoline needs to be under quite a bit of pressure unless you are running an older carbd engine. thats a big stumbling block.

Yep all oldschool engines here. We got a 6 gallon fuel tank and the hose off the fuel pump run to it. works great.

I've seen guys just adapt a garden hose to the coolant inlet and let the water go w/o actually recirculating the warm water, works to keep the engine cool to make sure it runs but i doubt its good for break-in as the motor never would warm up.

Have you ever heard of an engine dyno?? they can break in engines on that too...and also have source for coolant, and all gauges and accessories required for the engine

Not looking for a 25k dyno. Just something to rig up to keep engines from overheating and seeing them run and etc.

Something I can build for 50 bucks. lol

my old shop teacher in high school made one...he used 1 inch square tubing and built a cradle for the motor...built a "gauge cluster" out of pllywood...wired all his gauges. and did a simple plug and play to the motor and would crank it every so often. doubt it could be built for under 50...maybe around 100 or so...gauges will be the biggest part unless u goto autozone or somehwere and get those cheap ass sun pro gauges or whatever their called...they come in a pack of 3...oil, ammeter, and water...and buy a tach ontop of that ull be set

Maybe some car out there came with an electric water pump from the factory that you could score at a junkyard?

I wonder how much the cheapest electric pump for a SBC would cost? I have a brand new k5 blazer radiator(big bastard) and all the oil guages etc. My dad likes to dick around in the shop a lot ever since I got him back into racing. He cant do much since hes had heart surgery so I thought I would build something for him to play around with. He does header swaps and carb swaps and intake swaps and lets in run for a few minutes at a time just for the entertainment. Thought it would be a good part of an xmas present

dude, just get an actual water pump and rig up an electric motor to run the waterpump.

why cant you just run a belt from an actual waterpump to the crank?

We thought about that but there is long/short SBC pumps and all the pulleys are different. Tried it..

just bust apart a vacuume cleaner and use the guts to make one yourself. It would be cooler that way.

dude, what kind of redneck engine stand are you trying to build if you cant build it out of wood and use a vac. cleaner to power the waterpump.

in Alaska, that part would take 4 weeks to show up in the mail, and when it shows up you would have forgotten what you ordered it for in the first place.
