Is this a different treatment for that stuff you were dealing with some months ago?

Yes its electricity put to the head by 3 electrodes, instead of drugs. Just loooking for insight because as the time grows near Im more uncertain. Does it hurt? Statistics of who it worked for and who it didnt. Any problems dealeing with insurance? Were you still on meds after?

IIRC ECT is for depression or epilepcy(sp).

I was attempting a comedic relation to when the character John Nash played by Russell Crowe in "The Beautiful Mind" was electrocuted as a form of therapy.

    Oh well

When my wife was scheduled for it about 10 years ago, the research I did found that it had about a 50/50 chance of doing something effective long-term for her bi-polar disorder. But there was almost a 100% chance in it physically damaging her physically, ranging from minor burns to brain damage.

The mental health profession was split a 50/50 on abolishing the procedure altogether.

We opted out of the procedure and found another psychiatrist. I talked her into cancelling and she was not happy with me for a while. Once I explained that in her state the hint of possible relief was blinding her from making a good decision.

Since that time, the new doc has worked diligently on a med regiment, coming up with a cocktail of meds that she takes that has changed our lives.

A couple she takes slows her metabolism down dramatically and another stimulates her appetite. Not a great combination as she has gained a ton of weight.

But I prefer her large and functioning as opposed thin and cycling.

Its just such a highly debated thing. but i do know its most common modern use is for major dpression and mania. but as far as effectiveness, ive heard a lot, someone was saying 30-50%, but i think that was average since the thirties. I think now thats its been perfected a little more, and it has a smaller demographic, thats been upped to about 80%.

I think it works for everyone at first, then some relapse after 6 months to a year, but hey, i think itd be worth it 6 months of relief.

In the end, I think its worth a shot. maybe keep the treatment mild to see if it works for you. if so, go all out
