    Ebay fees outrageous!

Ebay sure gouges you on fees now. I sold a $138 item and the fee including Paypal came to just over $17. The normal fee now is 9%. Didn't the fee used to be 3%?

I think the last time I checked the total % of fee's between eBay and Paypal was like 11-12%... Yeah ridiculous I agree. It's kind of my last resort to selling stuff, but at least you get a wider market range right?

I wonder what their expenses really are for each item sold. I would venture to guess that Paypal and Ebay combined had less than $1 expenses and charged me over $17. No more Ebay selling for me!

If you are selling something that you need a wide market for it is worth it. My dad just sold three years of his magazine collection for over 500 dollars in pocket after expenses. Never would have got that on forums or craigslist.

this shows that capitalism actually works... they can charge what ever the market will bear and i applaud them for that. i agree that it seems high and i would not pay that percentage.

Once they made it so easy for buyers to bad mouth sellers with no repercussions i stopped selling on there.

The funny part is they lowered their auction costs, (bold item name, # of pictures etc..) and then they say you'll save on having an auction with us but yet they jack up the % they take out.....blows my mind

Krese beat me to it, was gonna say pretty much the same thing. Capitalism at work. They got the supply, we're demanding it. But now that e-bay has established themselves as the pre-eminent defacto mechanism for private internet sales, they are acting a bit monopolistically it seems (yeah I know I just made that word up)...

I haven't sold anything on ebay in quite a long time. But, decided that I need to sell off a bunch of antique oil lamp parts and such come January. 11-12% sounds pretty high...

But, I suppose to clear out all these Restoration parts that are taking up so much room, it'll be worth it in the long run

We've sold entire kitchen displays successfully on craigslist and didn't pay a dime doing so.

Isn't Craigslist more a local selling tool? I've bought and sold my lamps all over the US and even Canada and as far away as Japan once.

Not everyone has a want or use for them. Just collectors like myself. I need to cover a larger area.

Yes, it is. But it doesn't cost anything to list and you won't know until you try.

I only pay via credit card and never ever use it to accept payments so my account balance is always 0$. It doesn't cost me anything to use. Automatically pays subscipt services for me. Where is the evil in that.
