HOLY shit! That's insane how that happened. It's unfortunate that it he died, but I'm still amazed that the car launched that high up from hitting the curb. I wonder how fast he had to go to do that?

yea i think he hit it so fast that he tumbled and got airborn...thats the only way i can see it happen. if you watch the second video on the page it shows a trooper sayin that the car flipped a few times before it hit the building

I agree he had to be hauling. If you look at all the videos he hit another building first. He got lift from the curb, hit the first build which pointed him skyward with a lot of energy, then lost energy and drop on the roof of the second building. And I agree maybe this needs to go to Mythbusters...

If he had hit the curb head on, he would have just hopped over it and hit the building at ground level.

However, judging by the state of the rims, I would say he hit the curb while sliding sideways, which would easily roll a car, and possibly launch it quite high if the speeds are fast enough.

They state it went into a rolling spin. The curb just put it on a grassy area. And they are still not certain what put the vehicle into such a high trajectory. Hmmm....

The wreck occurred about 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, Fountain said, when the car struck a curb on the feeder road for an extended distance. The vehicle then moved onto a grassy area between the road and the Best Friends Pet Resort and Salon, which is located just north of the gym.

Finley’s car struck a wooden fence connected to the dog resort.

“We didn’t have any people in the building at the time of the wreck,” Best Friends General Manager Susan Adam said.

At first, DPS investigators thought Finley’s car had flipped end over end, but they now believe the car launched into a rolling spin. They’re still not certain what put the vehicle into such a high trajectory. The damage to the Ultra Bodies roof resembled a tornado, Fountain said.

Although DPS investigators don’t know how fast Finley’s vehicle was traveling at the time of the crash, the car contains a “black box” that provides downloadable data from the time of the crash.

“Without a doubt, this was the ultimate consequence of reckless speed,” she said. “We try to get the community’s attention about speed. This is another example of what can happen.”

Still, investigating a fatality that involved the relative of a fellow law enforcement agent made it “very difficult,” she said.
