Not a good idea to have a full drag car without a wall to block out something like this.

Freaking morron, hell doing a stoped burnout is one thing(bad enough by itself) but to do a burnout while going down the road like that is just asking for something like this to happen. condolences to those that have lost those dear to them.

All Black- 83, 87, 02 All WS6 T/As
Thats what I was thinking!!! 20+ years of racing experience should have told the driver that....The car was as long as thhe road is wide.. if it went sideways (which it did) the people standing there are done... I feel really bad for the ones that got injured, or lost their lives..

It was a 3000 hp Pro Mod car. Extremely sad situation. Evidently this has been going on for years at this event and this time it was a problem. Seven people dead. Everyone loses.

Red Tint Jewelcoat- 2008 Trailblazer SS
Very sad.
I would hope somehow there was a mechanical error of some sort. The driver should have simply KNOWN better. Throttle stuck??
Of course...that doesn't help the families of the victims....
Just found a video of it.. it's not graphic, you don't see the aftermath.

Click on the first video link, the Part I one. I had to open the site in IE to get it to work.

I jus watched that video and I'm in complete shock. How can anybody be that irresponsible. That is the dumbest idea I have ever thought of. Why oh why would you launch a fucking drag car on public roads? Drag racing is dangerous enough, theres tons of safety precautions taken, why would you allow 3,000 hp car to drive down a road with no protection for spectators. The risk of it getting wide like it did is absolutely not worth the risk. You couldn't pay me to stand there even if this accident never did happen. I also can't believe the driver would agree to actually do that. Lots of stupidity was behind this lil stunt. From the driver, the car owner, the team, the police.wow. just wow. Thats so awful. Nobody should EVER go to a race as a spectator and lose their life like that.

I'm not saying that what the guy did wasn't stupid, but you guys might want to take it a tad easier on him. He probably just wanted to awe the crowd, which I can understand. I mean, I wouldn't really worry about losing control while doing a burnout in my car (although my car pales in comparison). Plus, consider how that guy probably feels. I'm almost as sorry for him as I am for the victims and their families.
He'll definitely get what everyone is going to say he deserves. He'll be sued out of financial existance by the families of the victims. His drag racing career is probably over. He's lost so much public face that he probably has lost and will lose a lot of friends. On top of all that, he's going to have to live with what has happened. To some extent, his life is over, too.

BlackCherry- Bad Ass 67 Camaro / 2010
I am in complete agreement here.
It was not intential.
How many times has anyone here been to an event / parade of sweet cars, and one does a burnout? If the other's do not, people feel cheated (at that moment). Heck, it was cool, it was fun! that is what is the 99.9% of the response and occurance of the burnouts.
However, this time it went bad.
It Sucks!! Totally!! I cannot imagine the pain the families and friends are feeling. I would be angry too.
But before you cast that stone, make sure you have never done anything stupid first.
