Dogfish Head Punkin' Ale
It is one of their seasonal beers and I just picked up some today. Despite the 95 degree weather today in Baltimore this is really getting me ready for autumn. It is basically a brown ale with a lot of pumpkin flavor along with some other spices. And what makes it unique is that it is brewed with pumpkin guts instead of just some cheesy pumpkinish flavor added into the beer. DFH claims this to be their first beer originating as some sort of home-brew. If you can find it, it's definitely worth a shot.

6th commandment, "Don't fruit thy beer". Pumpkin is a fruit bro.

So? So are tomatoes but damn they are good on a burger. It's not like I'm slicing up some limes because the beer taste is too icky. This is a solid beer.

Fruiting beer means adding fruit to existing beer, dude.
A beer brewed with fruit in it, that's something else. I've made pumpkin ales and I've made blackberry ales. My favorite is my coffee ale.
Dogfish's Punkin is good stuff.

Fruit was used to give beer flavor way before hops. The Egyptians did this. Brewing beer with fruit is just fine. Beer "commandments" are from the Bud light crowd with their tasteless rice beer. Adjunct lagers are not a proper representation of beer.

If we went by Reinheitsgebot we wouldn't have most of the beers we have today. Also at one point that law didn't include yeast. Try again modda sucka.

Beer was also being made in Egypt way before Germany. Many Pharaohs were buried with mini breweries in their tombs.

Yeah...cause when people think about Beer, they think of egyptians.
Oh wait. GERMANS

What people think and what is true are two different things. For hundreds of years Germans didn't know yeast wasn't needed to make beer. They realized their law was wrong and changed it. Try some Punkin Ale. Dogfish head is known for making over the top beers that seem to go against most rules. None of their beers follow any purity laws. If you like the 90 minute, you may just like the punkin.

i've tried a few of dogfish head products and they all sucked except for one...the midas touch. from what i tasted of their dark beers and one of their ales all of them were way too sweet...they reeked of overdone sugar additive crap. everything except midas touch was so bad that i took one sip and poured the rest down the drain.

dog fish is a cool brewery because they make so many different one-off brews. i dont like some of them, but most are good. if you go to a distributor around here they'll have around 10 different 24 oz bottles of different brews that are limited production.
keep in mind a place like dogfish makes a beer knowing that most people wont enjoy it. if they wanted something un-offensive theyd brew miller lite.
also, pumkin beer isnt 'fruiting thy beer'.

Dogfish is a great brewery. Not the best pumpkin though. That goes to this:

"Fruiting the beer" is more of a reference to putting a lime in a Corona. YUCK!!!
DogFish Head is a great craft brew, I like their 90 min IPA. I haven't tried any of the punkin' ale yet but hope to see it in the stores this fall. Everyone has different tastes about what beer they like or don't like. So no point in anyone getting spun off about "beer claims".

to each their own i guess. i love craft and micro brews but dogfish head was just way too sweat. there was no bitter note and no flavor...just alcoholic sugar. at least that's what i tasted of it.

That's the nice thing with all the craft/micro brews on the market now....so much variety! Makes sampling beers enjoyable to discover all the differences.
I'm not one for extreme bitter beer....so that's one reason I like DogFish Head. I typically like stout beers to side step the heavily hoppy (bitter) beers. But like you say...to each their own.
