Black/Red/Black/Red- 98WS6/06MCSS/86GN/06H3
Do you guys think the 04-06 GTO would of sold better with retro styling?
First of all I'm not trying to start anything, you can see from what I'm driving I'm not in any position to diss anybodys car here. I just wanted to know that if they styled the gto retro like ford did with the 05 mustang gt, dodge with the new challenger or chevy did with the camaro. Do you guys think it would of sold better/been more popular?

that is a hard question .. because it was already a car before GM decided to make it into the GTO..AKA It was not designed as the GTO it was designed as a Holden ...

The GTO does need another re-design completely from the ground up.
Needs to be lighter if it is suppose to the replacement to the Firebird.

what would have made the GTO sell better if it was a 4 -door.... A V8 rear wheel drive sedan is a hard sell... But we could not have called it GTO ...

My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
if there was a v6 gto, it would have sold better [no g6 comments, plz]
Honestly, how many v6 05 stangs do you see vs the 05 gts? a million right? GTO was doomed with the price of gas being so damn high.

Dark Gray 02 Tahoe- A few too many Lsx's!
Well I beg to differ. 3700lbs?? Exactly how much does the Firebird weigh anyway? Also, does the firebird have an LS2?
As for my opionion, I dont like the futuristic look of the new Mustang and the Camaro...to me, that takes the true "american muscle car look" way from it....but that's just my opinion.........Any comments? objections?

The weight had nulified the addition of the LS2.
Stock 4th gens that were 5+ years oder than the GTO were still outperforming the GTO with the LS2 in straight line performance as well in the road course.
Get the weight down and this will no longer be the case.

SOM- 2002 FireHawk
IMHO GM blew it by taking a Holden and making minor changes and calling it an GTO. To me it looks like a mix between a Grand Am and Grand Prix, which I find neither appealling.
GM is learning that just sticking a badge SS, GTO or what ever on any vehicle hurts thier image, meaning less sales of the GTO and as a result less people buying other GM products. Gotta get em the show room to sell em...
If they want the GTO back they have to create a GTO. Retro ? Maybe something that evokes a design to remind you of a GTO. Modern double stacked headlights, something to remind you of the vehicle you are building.
If they had given the new GTO a different name it might have sold better. But like others have said muscle car people are a small buying segment. Most just want cheap price and gas millage...

Pewter- 2001 Camaro Z28 M6
yes I do believe the GTO would have sold better with retro styling.
The 5th gen camaro should have been an evolution off the 4th gen design and the 04-06 GTO should have been a retro design off the 60s GTO not off a holden car. If pontiac could actually think outside the box and not make most of their cars look the same and created a retro GTO before the retro mustang came out, GTO/GM sales would have increased. Now GM is entering the market late with the retro camaro!!
