Digital converter box
By now you might know that the govt. is having all television signals switched to digital in 2009. So if you don't have cable and get t.v. via "rabbit ears", then you need this coupon. After they run out, you'll have to shell out $40 or so extra bucks to get a convertor.
I ordered mine because we don't get cable at work and if I gotta work weekends during football season? I ordered two.

yep...its called Seperable Security..giving the customers the options to buy boxes which will have technology for cable CARDs to be inserted into the back.
That way, when you subscribe to a cable service they will give you whats called an "S-CARD"..its a type of cable CARD capable with working with two way communications systems. the "M-CARD" is only a one way card..thats why when you get a cable card put in your TV to "decode" the digital signals..you cant get a guide, which is what you can get with a set-top.
New technology...you buy the box..take it to any cable service provider you can...
I would recommend buying the Scientific Atlanta 4240 model..we use them in our system and are currently testing them..
how do I know all of this..well..i work for Cox Communications

You do realize that the govt. is going to provide every home with one. Also this is only for people with analog tuners in their televisions. If you have a HDTV you most likely have a Digital tuner. Or if you have a cable or satellite service they will all have a set top box for you to use.
I work for Dish Network as a regional trainer. I was a lead tech for 4 years before that though.

You cant order ppv with the remote. It used to be (atleast direct tv) you could order with the remote and not have you phone line connected. You could fill up your card with 25 ppv and never pay as long as the line wasnt plugged in. Say (atleast once) something happened to you card and get a new one. Miss my free dtv. Still have some programmers around. While you can still do dish to much of a pain in the butt.

Ummmm......ok.
Yes you can order PPV with the remote as long as its connected to the phone line. And now if you get one of the VIP series receivers you can have it hooked up through you internet connection too without the phone. You will basically not only be able to order PPV and dish on-demand, you will also be able to rent almost any movie out via Dish online.
I am sure I know more about this than anyone here as I teach the information and create presentations for the people who tell you about it on the phone or in the field.
Two way communication on satellite is limited for residential use, so I don't foresee this becoming very big soon. It may take a few years. But we do communicate through phone line, electrical, and now the internet as the "call back" to Dish.
