    Diapers for Fords?

Ok -- this is getting old. In the 20,000 or so miles that I have owned my 2004 Ford Ranger it has leaked like a sieve! Not long after I bought it the heater hoses went, then it was a rear brake cylinder. Now I have both a rear axle seal and a front pinion seal leaking at 67,000 miles. Anyone make diapers for these things?

I can fix it for you, mind you that you will not get it returned to you in on piece, or even a few large pieces.

I appreciate the offer. We'll see how the repairs go... and then I may take you up on it!

luckily all those seals are easy as hell to change. not really that common either. The front pinion seal every once in awhile, but I didnt to all that many axle seals when I worked at a ford dealer.

It's an '04. The front pinion seal is now leaking bad enough that it drips on the garage floor at night. I bought the seal, but need to go borrow a beam style torque wrench to check the pre-load. I believe it is the "Dana 35" style axle.

I think that's the sameone as the current Explorers. If I hadd a dollar for everyone I saw leaking

How about the rear axle seal -- anything special required for that job? Looks like it has a c-clip for axle retention so I'll have to drop the cover.

It's been a minute, but I remember just removing the yoke of the driveshaft off the yoke on the diff, them zapping the nut off that, pulling the yoke off, yanking the seal out with a puller, and then hammering the new one back in with a seal driver

Ifind prybars are great for axle seals. While you're in there I'd do the bearing as well. Also check where the axle seal rides along the axle for pitting etc.
Yup c clip axle retention. IIRC its an 8mm bolt holding the diff pin in place

    1. remove wheels 2. remove brake calipers 3. remove rotors 4. remove rear diff cover 5. remove screw out of pin in diff 6. push in axle and remove c clip, pull axle out and replace seal

Ok -- doesn't sound any worse than I thought it would be. Slide hammer is one of my favorite tools.

I have a standard seal puller -- and I think a set designed specifically for axle seals too. The slide hammer is what it normally takes to pop the damn drums off.

It's a Ford, roll it off of something very high like a 3 story parking garage.. Fixed!

There's not a parking garage in the entire county. But we do have a little thing up here called the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon -- ought to do the job quite nicely.
