I liked him because you got the feeling he was genuine in what he said and did. He wasn't just a poser in front of a camera.
The show won't be the same without him. My condolences to his family and friends.
May your voyage be on calm waters, Captain Phil.

Too bad, I liked the guy too. Should make for some interesting episodes when Deadliest Catch airs again. But that guy just didn't take good care of himself. You can't smoke cigarettes and drink coffee all day and not pay for it years later.

This is sad. When I watched the show I would laugh at his smart@$$ remarks. He did his job and the angels called him home.

Never watched the show. I'm not a big fan of reality TV, but I must say I am surprised they made a show about crab fishing.
On a pamphlet I once had about summer jobs in Alaska, it listed everything from fish-cleaning to crab boat fishing. The latter was the last job on the list. It paid the most, but it said you had to have many years of experience to qualify for that one.
That's a tough living. Not even knowing who this guy is, I can say he was truly a man among men.

Definately sucks that he passed. Seemed like a pretty good guy. I know this really had to devestate his kids, especially Josh.
R.I.P. and safe voyage home!
