Daily Drivers to look at for the wife.....
My wife is due up for a new ride.......just starting the looking process now. By new I mean a year or two old low mileage(10k or less).....I don't buy new cars. Looking to stay in the $25k-$30k range. Any suggestions on what vehicles to look at? Right now we're pretty wide open on categories but need some room due to the kids and possibly another kid next year. Kind of in the midsize car or crossover area.
She liked the Dodge Journey because her friend at work has one and likes it. I think I have her convinced to pass on those as I found a lot of reviews where people were very unhappy with theirs.
Another option is a Malibu. I like those but haven't read enough on them to know if they're well built. I know the v6 version has the 3.6L in it so I'd be fine with that. This is probably the vehicle we're both leaning towards at the moment unless I find some reasons to pass on it.
Dodge Durango is on the list......the '11 has a badass interior. She has an 05 now and likes it a lot.....gas mileage really isn't that bad on her 05 for how big it is (18-20 average with a best of 23 on the hwy). The room is nice but not entirely necessary. We have my truck if we need to haul a bunch of crap around. I also think it's overpriced.
Chevy Traverse is one she likes.....I'm not a fan. The exterior looks nice but the interior looks cheap to me. My buddy has one and has had a ton of trouble out of it....that also concerns me.
Will not own a Caddy, would like to stay completely away from Ford (although the edge looks sharp), and really don't want anything imported that parts can't be bought at a parts store.

Liquid Red- 2008 Pontiac G8 GT
What type of vehicle does she need? Just a DD with room to haul stuff, something 4x4, something with better gas mileage? The couple you listed seem to be all over the board...

If you get a bu don't get the timing chain stretching engine sucking oil through the tb 3.6. Then again the cam phaser solenoids are on a huge back order for the Ecotec also. I think the 3500 is an option in the bu also.
I really didn't see too many issues with the Journeys when I was at the Slowpar dealer
Subaru an option?

My old lady has had 2 malibus now a 05 and a 08 v6 they are good little cars for the price and we would still have the 05 if she would not have totaled it the mpg is decent 30 to 32 hwy maintenance cost are low and what I have seen parts are fairly cheap also.
I messed up the 05 was a v6 and the 08 is a 4 banger but i didn't notice any power difference between the 2 and om trying to remember if the 08 is a 6 speed auto.

2004 Corvette Z06? Kids can fit in trunk, good mpg, excellent performance, parts can be bought at Autozone (Not Hi-Po parts though )

And they also eat brakes. Hell just looked at an 07 Murano the other day and the exhaust was rusted apart already

they are all over the board......there's really no 1 specific vehicle or even class of vehicle we're looking at right now. Options are open. Gas mileage isn't super important but a bonus.....I think for the most part she averages 18's in the Durango right now. Wouldn't really want to go worse than that but at 18 avg that leaves a ton of choices.
To some of the other posts:
She doesn't like the Murano.
Isn't the 3.6 the same that was in the older grand prix's? We had the GTP and that motor was rock solid.....I never had to touch it.
We did find an 08 Grand prix with 10k miles on it......she loved her old GP so we may at least go look at that one. It's 4 years old but 10k isn't really shit for mileage and it's cheap.

Red Tint Jewelcoat- 2008 Trailblazer SS
Older Grand Prix's had the 3.8. Rock solid motor.
Wish I could find a 10K miles Z06 for $30K....not that I could swing it anyways though.

3.8L is rock solid and so is the 3.1L after a intake gasket change. I've owned both and enjoyed every minute with them. 3.1L gets a little better MPG. And I wish I could swing a Z06 too. Termi's are the hard cars to find in that range around here. Everyone wants an arm and a leg for them
