    A couple ?s about RX8's

Ok so my girlfriend totalled her car a couple days ago. On the bright side, the insurance is giving her 9,500$ which is pretty good for a 2006 focus i think. she wants a RX8, and i frankly dont know much about rotary motors. Anybody have any input about these cars??

    thank, Daniel

My last car was an RX8. There horrible about fouling out plugs. The manual transmission doesn't hold up well. Yet if you go with an automatic you get 30+ less HP from it right off the bat. There expensive to mod. I don't recommend one unless she is going to leave it completely stock and drive it like grandma would.

On a brighter note, the only thing I've drove that compared to the handling of mine was a corvette. The handling is just awesome.

From what I understand rotary motors don't last as long as regular engines.
Also the 6speed version on this car is quite a bit faster than the auto, and the handling is amazing. The ride quality is good and the interior is really nice, I would perfer a 350z personally, but the rx8 is miles better than a focus........

My brothers old 350Z is for sale just the otherside of beaumont in Silsbee. Its an 05 i believe. a week before he traded it in he did the exhaust and bullydog programmer on it. Its a 6speed.

i can vouch that its in damn good mechanical shape, mainly because I drove it as much as he did. he always needed 4 seats and would drive my RX8. and it looks awesome. If you care to make the 1.5hr drive to look at it, I'll ask him just where its at.

And I know they only gave him 13k on trade in, so they should be asking much more than that.

Edit: there asking 14,900 for it at the dealer.

Their fun cars but def not known for reliability. I would like to have one though just because they handle amazingly and they are a nice design.. but I wouldn't mod it. Just tell her to go with a rx7 and drop a ls1 in it!

right!! lol....she wont be modding it and for the most part she takes good care of her cars...mainly because of me. Although she puts a lot of miles on her cars.

My neighbor down the street has had several third gen turbo RX7s and an RX8. He's on nopistons.com and few rotorary boards. He has swapped motors in them in his garage a few times. He loves them and is the first to admit that they're junk. The RX8 with no turbo gets no power just the oil leaks and other headaches that go along with the rotaries.

I dont know what year you are looking for, but I do know that the gas mileage sucks. 16/22 is crap for a car like that. A buddy of mine has one and says he can only average about 17mpg around town.

My GF likes the RX-8 too.

Definitely not a man's car. I beat one with my Legacy once.

+1 on the terrible gas mileage. All car magazines report that. Like others have said, the handling is supposed to be really good tho.
