i'd say that cop needs a new profession....he's obviously burned out. He was looking for trouble the minute he got out of the car. I feel for these guys really....especially in Canton. That's a rough shitty town......I wouldn't want to be a cop there. This guy just took it too far. He needs a new assignment or something.

wow... that officer was an ass... burnt out or not... a new profession isn't going to help him (other than hopefully disarming him of weapons, power and authority)... he'll be the same enywhere he goes... sadly you'll not see the video's of officers doin good on youtube...

yeah, these cops must have gotten their training from planet of the apes...

    1) did they get consent to search the vehicle? did they have probable cause to search?

    2) why would you search the back seat of a vehicle w/out securing all the passengers/driver?

    3) what ever happened to the customary, "sir, can i see your license and registration please?"...

but i think what really puts this way over the top is when the cop (who seems to have a problem calming down) says this to the motorist (who by this time is detained in the back seat of the cruiser).

    officer jackass #1:
"I tell you what I should have done. As soon as I saw your gun, I should have taken two steps back, pulled my Glock 40, and just put 10 bullets in your ass and let you drop. And I wouldn’t have lost any sleep."

    Update from OFCC:
    http://www.ohioccw.org/

UPDATE 7/22/2011: Canton Police announced Thursday that the officer was relieved of all duties in June following an internal investigation complaint filed in this matter. The local Canton Repository has done some additional investigatory work into the officers and an excellent analysis of the video / audio we posted. The video and story has gone both viral and national crossing over to websites not typically affiliated with the pro-gun movement. Shortly after 7:00pm Thursday our website could no longer handle the volume of visitors we were receiving. We promptly quadrupled the resources behind OhioCCW.org in light of the popularity of this story.

a very thorough accounting of the situation and the cop's history here:
    http://www.cantonrep.com/topstories/...d-carry-arrest

“I’m so close to caving in your (expletive) head...You (expletive) with me...You’re just a stupid human being,” he shouted at Bartlett, according to both versions of the video.

    “Yes, sir,” Bartlett said.

“(Expletive) talking to me with a (expletive) gun. You want me to pull mine and stick it to your head?”

    “No, sir. No, sir.”

“People like you don’t deserve to (expletive) move throughout public. Period. Stupid idiot.”

Later, Harless told Bartlett that he should have executed him for being stupid, and threatened to stop Bartlett every time he sees him, tow his car and take him to jail.
Harless, 45, an Ohio native and former Marine worked as a police officer in Virginia for four years before coming to Canton in 1996.

During his career he has earned several commendations.

One was from a Virginia judge, who praised the way Harless handled a situation involving a man with a gun, according to records in his city personnel file.

Canton’s internal affairs unit has investigated 16 complaints involving Harless dating back to 2000.

He was reprimanded in one 2003 case. Harless and another officer were exonerated of using excessive force, but were given a letter of reprimand for not activating the in-car video camera at the scene per department policy.

yep....those guys were guilty the second he stepped out of the car. I normally side with the cops because they have a tough job with a ton of stress and normally see people at their worst. Still though, there are right ways and wrong ways to get the job done.....this was the wrong way.

let me play devils advocate for a minute.......the driver of that car isn't a totally innocent angel either. He's in the bad part of town ( I know this because he's in Canton and there are no good parts) at night with a known hooker on his car and some guy he supposedly didn't even know. If you got a gun on you and there's some prick officer you have to know it's only a matter of time before he searches you so I would've yelled out "I have a CCW" as soon as the cops walked up.

well, that's just it, ..the driver started notifying, the cop was cutting him off, telling him to shutup, asking him a bunch of questions, ...the driver seems like a pretty passive guy, so the presumption is he was following the (irate) cop's orders... I don't know if the driver was implicated in "bad stuff" that night or not, but the bottom line is there should be a presumption of innocence and adhesion to department procedures and respect of rights.. the only "crime" the driver is being charged w/ is "failure to notify"...
