    Angry Computer slow on router

My internet has gotten very slow on the router but it's very fast when it's pluged into the modem. I've tried restarting the router but that does nothing. Any ideas?

What kind of router? Is your Network Card set to auto detect?

It's a Belkin super G router. Both computers are slow; the one on wireless and the hard-wired one too.

Proxy settings are on auto detect though.

Mine too... I'm getting a good signal on both modem and my wireless router but the speed sucks... It's like a Vtech engine that its wound-up in high rpms but the speed is like 5 mph. You don't happen to have comcast do you?

It sounds like the router isn't talking the cable modem very well.

What kind of Modem and can you set the speed and duplex on the Network Port in the Router?

It's an older Linux cable modem. I would assume you can set the speed and duplex on the modem. I haven't played with the advanced settings though. It was just the basic setup with encription enabled. It was working fine for about a year but it's been getting slower and slower the last few weeks. Now it's a fast and dial-up on the modem.

Normally when I run into problems like this at work. Its usually the duplex setting on the Network card isn't matched to the Network Port.

I'll try to play with that when I get home. What exactly are duplex settings?

Network Cards and Ports have two basic settings. Speed and Duplex.

Speed is usually 10 or 100 MB
Half-Duplex allows packets to travel one-way at a time.
Full-Duplex allows packets to travel both ways at the same time. Whats more important is both the Network Card and Network Port are set the same.

Thanks, I'll look into that. It may be set on auto detect.

Most of the time Auto-Detect will work fine. You can try full or half duplex and see if it helps.

If not, you'll be hearing from me tomorrow morning.
