    Cobra Badging

Car was a mid to late 90's.

Are there any yrs that the Cobra did not say "Cobra: on the rear in place of "Mustang" like our cars (T/A's) say Pontiac?

I came across one today that had SVT and Cobra badging but it had Mustang across the back. Is this a clone?

I believe '94-'98 Cobra's said 'Cobra' across the rear bumper but when the restyled '99 came out, it said Mustang instead of Cobra. If it's the '94-'98 style, it may not be a legit Cobra.

    This is a '99 Cobra.

this one had much smaller SVT badge in the same spot and Mustang was a little bit smaller and it was smooth on the bottom clip below the lettering.

then it was a first gen SN-95 (94-95 model which said mustang instead of cobra which was changed in 96)

I asked because I'm so used to see the Cobra on 'em that it seemed strange without it.

And also that I was able to just walked away on him.

You're right. The 1994-'95 said Mustang then they changed them to say Cobra in '96 up until the restyled '99 came out.

that was different Donkey Kong was cool mustangs are not...
Plus he was a gorilla with that name... not like they changed his name mid game.

it would be like having a camaro Z28, camaro SS, camaro iroc, and camaro RS,

than one day changing the badging and name, calling it the new Chevrolet Tiger...

even trans ams, firebirds were more consistant in naming conventions than mustangs

well, it's not as random as you think, the name has history, (Shelby's) Cobra namesake and Fords Mustang have been closely associated for a long time...

edit: much like Chevrolet's Corvette has been associated with a certain distant cousin of sharks

I know the name has history with carol shelby. However when I hear cobra I think of the true cobra by shelby not a Ford mustang..

Stingray did not replace the name Corvette. Plus they go together. Corvette means small fast frigate war ship. Stingray small fast animal.

    Cobra, mustang, terminator equals lame.

Cobra did not replace the name either, thats why this thread was started, because Cobra Mustangs had Cobra badges on the side and 'Mustang' written on the rear valence; the namesake shares weight.

Mustangs and Cobras (the actual animals) are also both well known for their speed,

I see nothing but corporate bias in your arguement, which is to be expected here so..

This is exactly right, this is all you need to know right here in terms of badging. Just remember when you see "MUSTANG" on the rear bumper of an SN95 Cobra, it's a 94-95 which means it's a 5.0, when you see "COBRA" on the rear bumper of an SN95 Cobra, it's a 96-98, which means it's a B-Head 4.6 4V.

To add, they're nothing to write home about, the 96-98's are maybe just a step above a 99-04 2V IMO. But you still can't really compare an LS1 car with one, an LT1 car on the other hand is a pretty equal match with one though. They compare pretty nicely.

Not much can be said about the 94-95 5.0 Cobra's though, didn't really make much power at all stock. But I will say that they're good platforms to get big power out of (better in this category than the 96-98's IMO), they respond to mods pretty good and can be fast for not too much money, just like all the other 5.0's before that.

agreed, if youre not into 5.0 Foxes these are a great alternative.

I'm not a die hard GM and i like fords, and would like mustangs except most mustang owners in this area are douchenozzles...

in regards to mustang and cobra.. 03/04 years replaced mustang with cobra names and badging... Plus I think Mustangs are like eclipses, great sports car for a girl..

94-95 GT's can do the same. I've seen both the SN95 5.0 GT's and Cobra's put down some respectable numbers (for what they are) with cheap streetable H/C setups. Not too many clean, well-taken care of examples out there though, I never see any clean streetable ones at the track, almost every SN95 I see is an all-out race car.

Nah, the '01 Cobra's read "COBRA" on the rear bumper also.
