    Chipmunks suck

These damn critters keep building their winter homes under the hood of my car. My beater car almost caught fire on me a few weeks ago because the entire engine compartment was filled with dry grass and pine needles.

For anyone else that wants or needs to get rid of them, I found a cheap and easy solution:

    http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/l...514826494.html

Read the part about the "chipmunk swimming pool". I was skeptical myself, but I've caught about 20 of them since the start of summer.

You know there used to be big King Snke that patroled the edge of the yard...Never had any little critters .... But I think she died or was killed, got the things all over the place now ....

Get a few rubber snakes....lay then under your car....spread them out.....voila....no rats or chipmunks. Works like a charm.

I like that! I'm going to give that a shot and see how it goes. I wonder if that works for mice as well.

My wife freaked out just a few minutes ago when she came upon another one of these critters. After chasing it around for a while, I couldn't get it to leave and it just kept running from one side of the garage to the other. Finally, I fired up the motor and goosed the pedal with a wide open borla. He bolted out with as much adrenaline as a chipmunk could muster.

Oh, and the pool has officially opened again for business.

Drowning is a pretty cruel way to get rid of chipmunks. I have lived in a lot of places with many chipmunks, squirrels, muskrats, rabbits, beavers, weasels, cats, porcupines, racoons, and racoons are the worst... They are big enough to chew through about most anything. I have a bird gun by the back door to deal with them.

But drowning small animals just isn't in my nature. Chipmunks can swim but like any other animal they get tired out and eventually drown.

Just get a havaheart trap or two and take them to someones place a few miles away who you don't like.

the water trap is a good one for mice in basements.

i couldn't do it outside though. i'd be too afraid that i'd catch a squirrel instead. i really like squirrels.

I don't think this would work well with squirrels unless a really large bucket was used. I'm talking trash can sized. Squirrels haven't been destructive to my home and car so I have no need to target them. If they don't bother me, I'm happy to leave them alone.
