Chevy Volt road test returns 127 mpg.

I know that it only got like 75 mpg driving it hard in the city and mountains, but come on. Pretty sweet.

i'd still take one. it still beats the crap out of my g6 at 30mpg. hell...i could basically go to and from school everyday and not have to bother with gas...that would be badass.

I forsee some interesting warranty claims, like some electric only short trippers ending up with a tank full of jelly. I'm doubting your average yuppie knows about fuel stabilizer
unless thr engine is forced to run every once in awhile by the computer

interesting consideration.
maybe the best thing to do would be only do a half tank unless you knew that you were going to be going on a longer trip and would be using the engine. at least with only a half tank to a time you could fill back up to a half or so and keep some fresher fuel in it.
still...would be a damn good question to pose to gm.

Wonder if I could tune one... Interesting to see how fast the electric motor would go without a speed limiter...

Custom Swirly Black- 2001 WS6 M6
Better be 127MPG for $40k.
This car would be more realistic buy for me if it were in the $2X,XXX.

Seems gm has already thought about this.

Have you solved the stale gas problem?
I’m not so worried about that. Most people are going to use up some fuel at some rate, probably faster than six months. Fuel is certainly going to be good for six months without concern. Most people are going to take one or two long trips in six months. We’re not designing this vehicle as a pure EV for a reason. Most people realistically while they’re going to get their 40 miles and there’s going to be five days a week when they may never use any gas at all, there’s a strong likelihood that they are going to use enough gas that this isn’t going to be a significant problem for most people.

It would be a more realistic buy for everyone if it was 2xk. Hopefully as the technology develops the price will drop. Still I'll let all the tree hugging yuppies with money to spare pick up the first few model years before I will even consider buying one. On papper they car seems pretty good but new technology first year production no thanks I'll pass and let someone else be the guinea pig on that. Even if it was 30k-33k and you still got the 7500 tax credit it would be a pretty good deal.

if you look on Chevy's web site they say you can get them for 33K-ish after the $7500 rebate. Still too much for me to afford. It's also in new SS Camaro territory. It would be hard for me to buy a Volt over a brand new SS, but if I were older and had a family I'd be more inclined to save money on family trips.
