still a heavy brick..... don't get me wrong. I like the Challangers in looks, but the hp to weight ratio just sucks....

agreed...they need to do some weight reduction and handling upgrades to get it competing with the vette's, camaro's, shelby's etc...

One nice thing to say about all of this: While pricey between all makes, the Big 3 are making the most powerful cars ever available to the buying public. The least of them will run circles around most of what was available during the golden years (roughly 64 to 72) of the Muscle Car...

This is the second era of muscle cars. I do like that Challenger, then again...I like almost everything that's out right now muscle wise. I just wish the Charger wasn't a 4 door.

I guess it wouldn't be very cost effective to do for a short amount of time, but I wish the Big 3 would retool, use the original molds...and make the old muscle car bodies from the first era, and combine them with today's technology. A limited run or something. Not that it would make a lot of sense I guess.

    The shaker hood is awesome.

Only thing is, modern engines are so smooth I don't know if it would ever shake.

Car needs to go on a diet. Headers/bolt ons, cam, etc and I bet it would shake.

The challenger is the best looking of the big 3 IMO. And why the Hellcat.... how about Barracuda?

I watched an interview with Ralph Gilles and he said he wasn't sure how the rumor about a new 'Cuda got started, but it would be a couple years. Nothing is in the works right now. I agree about the challenger..although I wish they'd give the nose a bit more of a wedge look..and clean up the lower rocker area of the doors. Take away the box look a little bit.

    Hellcat:

Has anyone seen the Roadrunner tribute mod with these cars? had one roll by me 3 wks ago going to a car show. First thing I saw was the giant wing. I was like ah cool a Roadrunner, then as it got closer I was like WTF a Challanger modded to look like a Roadrunner.

I like the regular body better. The Superbird doesn't look bad, just not as good IMO. Kind of looks like a car that should be in GTA5. But then again they already have the challenger in GTA5 in form of the gauntlet.

And to recreate a faithful reproduction they even put the reverse hood scoops over the front tires. Anybody else know why they were put on the originals?

If Dodge then was like Dodge today it was probably to cover up a hole that someone on the assembly line cut by mistake.

This is closer to the truth but not quite accurate. There was so much down force at speed (this occured about 190 mph or so) that the tires rubbed on the fender. The solution was to punch oval slots into the fender to clear the tires. The reversed hood scoops were from the Coronet (IIRC) and were used to cover the hole.

Next time you see one at a car meet ask the owner if there is a hole under the scoop. It's one thing a clone probably won't have...

Thanks for the Auto history lesson. It's these little details that are forgotten that makes the classics so neat.
