    Cars and Coffee Anyone?

Made my first Saturday Cars and Coffee in Great Falls, Virginia yesterday. Seems this new kind of car get together has finally made it from the left coast to the right. Someone mentioned it to me and after looking it up Katie's Cars & Coffee - Great Falls - #1 Cars & Coffee in the DMV . I said, no way anyone is actually showing up at 6 a.m. on a Saturday. So I show up at about 7:15 and this is what I found. Pretty amazing array of cars. Of course Great Falls is a pretty high dollar suburb of DC so I guess it shouldn't have been such a big surprise. Friday and Saturday evening cruises seem to be on the way out around here...is this the future for our hobby?

I don't believe it's the future of our hobby. I've noticed out west here the morning coffee get togethers out here where it is supposed to have originated are fairly popular but scattered about, but the evening cruises are still very hot and heavy. Saturday night still brings in 500+ high quality cars in Scottsdale, the main cruise and the oldest cruise in AZ going for 25 years now. There are so many other cruises scattered all over town on any given night it tends to actually hurt the car count. You can find 3 or 4 different cruises on any night of the week that aren't more than 15-20 miles apart.

The morning coffee cruises were started by the old guys around here. They aren't nearly as big actually. I've seen maybe 25 cars at the most. I don't think the youngins want to get out of bed that early Retired folk don't have much to do. They are usually the first ones to leave at the late night evening cruises too

I'm there probably 2 times a month. Got some buddies in Huntsville that drive up and meet me at my house in Franklin and then we drive over to the show. We hit Bowling Green after the show yesterday. Fun cruise.

Reminds me of a Messerschmitt only slightly bigger. Still likely German made and from the 40's. Popular with the European countries. Exact name I'm not sure but I'm familiar with different ones since my wife is nuts over these things and wants one in the worst way.

Says right on the front plate it is a Morgan 3. Morgan is a British company and they started making that car sometime in the past 5 years. They do have some old 3 wheelers though too. All of their cars look old even the new ones. And did you notice the 2 cylinder v-twin engine is sitting out in the open in between the headlights. Talk about air cooled.

I always like the morgan aero cars. This one it newer too.

Honestly I thought it was just a custom name plate....but the link, wow they have some serious styling on their cars.....talk about a throw back to the 20's. Some nice curves and body lines.

They aren't a huge company, everything is assembled by hand. They make some sexy ass cars though.

They do get made fun of though because they use wood in their frames. But they use really nice wood and modern treatment processes on the wood. But they still use wood lol. They still pass the safety tests for cars though.

If I recall correctly the 3 wheeler is not considered a car.

Wood isn't anything new for construction. I would think the people making fun of that don't know their history.

Thanks for the link Zinergy, didn't know there was a company out there now remaking this stuff. It's a knock off of the European stuff that I see forsale at BJ every year. I'm probably going to wind up with one of the originals at some point, lol.

Wood isn't new for construction that is true and that is why people make fun of them. Because no one uses it anymore. A few people say who wants to pay 100K+ for their top end performance model and have a paritally wood frame underneath you.

I don't know if it is a knock off of European stuff as 1) Morgan is a European company and 2) they have been making 3 wheelers since the 30s. They just stopped for a really long time and now made a new one.

Ppl will pick on wood but think that carbon fiber is great. Yes, I know carbon fiber can be stronger than wood but compared to metal.....

I've become to admire the Woodies. Neat concept, though I'd hate to be in one in an accident.

Carbon fiber is strong(stronger than steel) and very light but also has no flex. It cracks when it is hit and there are often times where there is no cost savings to repair it. It also is not forgiving in car accidents. That is why all carbon fiber cars have to have crumple zones all around the driver/passengers to absorb the shock otherwise it would be passed almost directly to the passengers. Which means even a minor crash can total a car.

Now they have carbotanium which Pagani used for the new Zonda. Which is carbon fiber with strands of titanium woven in.
