Car Problem Question
Hey guys my mustang raidator sprang a leak last summer so I replaced it, and installed a new thermostat some time in the fall and since then the car seems to run hot some time and the heat will just drop out for no reason sometime. Also sometime the raidator fluid will just boil up and come out of the over flow tank even when the top is on tight. Ive been told this could be a blown head gasket, is there anything else could that could be causing this.
Thanks in advance

Also I would like to add I'm not getting any excessive smoke from the exhaust and the power of the car does not seem to be down at all.

That engine is known for cracked intake manifolds. The manifold is plastic.

Do I think? Yes. Do I know it is? No. But I do know that on your particular engine from 96-98 they had a problem with the intake manifolds cracking, and they are what they call a wet manifold. This means coolant runs through them. The car overheats and has erractic engine temperature control when they crack. You might even find a leak. Replacing a thermostat over and over again wont do shit if the thermostat isn't bad. You can test the thermostat. Did you pressure test your cooling system? Or are you just guessing? Get a pressure tester from vato zone and put about 14 lbs of pressure on the cooling system, then inspect for leaks.

How old is the rad cap? If it's bad the boiling point will lower and could boil over....and like 310 said the same goes for other leaks. I'd pressure test the system and replace the cap for shits and giggles.

I'm gonna say no, because there is no info whatsoever about what brand it is, only horsepower claims. The intake I see in the picture is of a factory intake, possibly for PI motors. I'm not sure that yields a 20 horse increase. I'm jus weary about there being no brand name at all. If it was even jus a ford racing piece there would be great attention put on that point. The buy it now, its not exactly cheap either. Look into an intake by a company called Professional Products, or take a look at the Ford racing catalog. The professional products piece is metal, the ford racing is a PI piece modified to work on your year engine if I remember correctly.
I have the sneaking suspicion whoever is holding that add is fucking people selling stock intakes as performance parts . If all you want is a replacement intake manifold there is nothing cheaper then a junkyard or take off manifold, yes you could risk buying a cracked one but its cheap.Last edited by 310stanger; 03-24-2008 at 07:56 PM.
