California people, need info. might be moving there!
as the subject says, I might be accepting a job offer (tentative) for relocating to the San Jose area of California.
Here is the issue;
I have never been to california, and secondly my gf and I had plans to relocate to Las Vegas this summer.
reason for las vegas, no state income tax, we have fun there, and cheap houses/property tax, and I have been there hundreds of times.
Now in regards to the San Jose area, I have heard its very upscale/nice. If you live in sanjose housing/rental is $3000k or more, but you can find nice rental/housing for around $1200 if you live outside sanjose.
here is are my questions:
what is the san jose area like?
what is the cost of living, gas per gallon or a gallon of milk?
gun ownership laws, and modified car laws?
etc?
any and all info will be appreciated.

Well I have spent some time there but never lived there. I actually live in Sacramento. San Jose is huge...the city is over 1m people itself not counting the surrounding areas like Milpiteas, Cuppertino, Saratoga, Santa Clara, Los Gatos and many more. Downtown by San Jose State is nice with an urban feel and good night life, but you will pay a premium to live there. Good things about San Jose are the job market (heart of Silicon Valley), proximity to the ocean (40 minutes), large international airport nearby, seems to have quite a car crowd down there too (lots or rice though). If you are not hell-bent on living downtown then Los Gatos and Saratoga are the gold standard down there...nestled in the hills just outside San Jose (where some of the CEO's live) . I think you could find a detached house for about 1800/mo just outside of downtown. I you want luxury apartment in the heart of it all then probably 2000 on up (Those seemed to be the rough estimates after googling for about 2 min). Oh, commute traffic can be a bitch...but I suppose it's like that in most major cities.
If you've never been to CA, then definitely check it out first. From what I understand- you either love it or hate it-- I like it... I've never lived in any other state though nor felt the need to.1998 Z-28 Arctic White, M6, Lid, Catback, Free-Mods

thanks for the reply.
I deal with chicago traffic so I think i can handle the traffic there.
I wont live in san jose, but the position is in san jose, where to be exact that i dont know. so somewhere outside the city but in decent proximity would be great.

You have to know "How to live in certain Places"
In short its "What you make of it"
I think you'll like the weather here,
What you do with it after that is up to you !Last edited by vette0009; 03-03-2011 at 03:08 PM.

The weather is great until the wild fires come through your area. Being evacuated really sucks. Not as bad as having your home burn to the ground, but, still sucks none the less. Oh, and then there are the mudslides and floods and above mentioned earthquakes...
I've lived here all my life and been through it all at one time or another

So cal is a different animal from Norcal. There are parts of San Jose that are great, and a good chunk that sucks-just like any large city. The bay area has a lot to offer and being in San Jose everything from food in San fran to beautiful highway 1 is within 30 min.
Basically if you have a cold air intake it's illegal here, you will need a smog guy if you have any cam bigger than a 224 and shorties. There are plenty of us out there that are modified and some great mountain roads to boot. 91 last I checked was 4.03, it jumped from 3.83 last week (current bs in the east is probably affecting your area also). Look forward to paying damn near 10% tax on stuff you buy, unless it isn't cooked

I never used to either. Nothing bothered me. That is until my walls came crashing down around me for what at the time seemed like the longest, loudest earthquake ever in 94...
Or until the hill behind us let loose in 05 and I had up to two feet of mud all over my home and property after the water receded. Couldn't even see the pool. Took months to dig it all out. Took down all our fences and just all around sucked.
Then there was the time my whole town was evacuated in 98 for almost a week when the fire was surrounding it. And the floods and fires have just been in the last 8 years
Good times...
