Cable kicks the crap out of DSL!! It just makes sense, a cable wire is fatter than a phone wire therefore you can get more info down it. I'm pulling 5MB down and 1MB up for under $50/month.

Just to weigh in on some other differences between the two.

The way cable is set up they have basically a 'ring' of users that encompasses your whole area with everyone sharing space on the ring. So, if everyone uses it at the same time it will slow down. There are also security issues with all those people sharing the same ring, easier to hack into others.

DSL may be slower but each user has their own 'ring' so it will always run at the same speed. It also eliminates the security issues of running so many on the same lines.

And to quantify, I do have DSL but did have cable. I work for AT&T so I get DSL for free but if it weren't for that I wouldn't have switched. I do like the cable better because it was faster. I just wanted to let you know some more differences between the two.

cable VS dsl is a decission that needs to be made based on the area where you live.....a crappy cable company and your cable internet will suck.....same with DSL....i have had both and i used to to support for @Home......my DSL in different areas may be slower, but it has been more stable than any cable connection ever......cable will eventually fade

and the thickness of the wire does not have much to do with connection speeds

and DirectTV DSL has been out of business for almost 4 years now....perhaps you mean internet over satellite....not sure Direct TV offers that right now
