    C4 Vette vs a 98 Camaro SS

I currently have an opportunity to get my hands on a C4 vette however it may entail me giving up my 98 SS. I was wondering if anyone could give me a comparison or something to that effect? My camaro does have a 105k miles on it everything is in good condition no major problems. I don't have much info on the vette currently. I'm more asking as a prliminary for consideration. Any input would be appreciated.

I would only do it if it was a zr-1 or lt-4. C4 that can be anywhere from the 80's to 90's.

I figured it wasn't a great deal but thought I'd look into it since my camaro is getting up there in mileage and I know the vette was well maintained. I'm not sure he exact year yet but know its late 80s early 90s

The C4 will handle better. It's lighter and benefits from IRS.

My mom's 94 C4 was more fun to drive than my 01 SS, even after bolt ons were done to the SS.

    Just my .02.

what do you consider up in mileage....?

I know many ls1 engines with 200k+ miles and the car still races, never breaks down and runs strong.

a lt1 or lt4 does not come close to having the reliability of a ls1.

Yeah Ive heard of the las1 going that far it was more just a side concern is all. I got my camaro around 90k so I don't know how it was treated before that or anything to that effect is all. MY reason for questioning is that I really didn't know to much about the c4 vettes so I when my boss told me she had one that she probably going to be selling soon i started to look into them and thought i'd ask what you guys thought.

I think your better off with the ls1... now if her c4 was a zr1, priced as a normal c4, yeah go for it!

i say stick with the SS and mod it, unless the c4 is realy mint as in it doesnt have cracking everywhere on the body and if you feel like messing with those lt engines and all there porblems thats just my .02

Okay thanks everyone. Now if I can pull of getting it without having to sell the SS and put it on classic insurance or something like that is it worth getting as long as its sticks around or under the average price for them? Or are they not worth the time?

If I had to choose. I would go with the Camaro, better engine, better looking exterior, the C4 to me looks like a splitting maul wedge or a door stop with wheels.. worst Vette ever made (appearance wise)

I like the C3? Or are you talking F-Bodies? I like the IROC-Z and GTA's.

The advent of the C5 relegated normal C4 Vettes to the also-rans.

You already have shoddy build quality in the Fbody, why take a step backward from there with a C4?

Sorry, but one of my cousins had a C4 and that was the biggest rolling pile of awful I've ever had the misfortune of riding in. More squeaks than a pet store and electrical gremlins to boot.

Keep the Fbod. If you NEED a Vette, save a little more and get a C5. It's a FAR better car.
