go into your BIOS and set it up to boot from CD first, then Hard Drive.

It will read the CD first and say "Press any key to boot from CD......"

    That should do it.

CD is set as boot first.

BIOS does see the new hard drive.

I had that happen to me once. Even tried to hook it up to another computer via USB and at first, the drive was recognized and then nothing. Same on all my computers. Nothing.

It was a bad HD. It happens occasionally.

Have you tried to see if it shows up hooked up to another computer and format it?

Is the OS already on the new drive? You could do the f12 thing upon boot up and then arrow down to your cd drive...less time consuming than changing the bios.

Its IDE brand new drive no OS on it. Trying to format and install a OS but seems to not recognise my CD is a OS cd or something. I will try the drive in another CPU though.

try no hard drive at all, just try the CD by itself and see if it will boot from the disk. You don't need a hard drive for it to boot to the installation - there just won't be anywhere to install it. Try it out and see what happens. If that's what it is, either the jumpers are wrong or the hard drive is effed.

Just ran the HD on my personal computer on cable select. Got it formated fine...and XP installed. I am going to grab another IDE cable as I did not use the same cable and try hooking it up in the original computer....
