I like Johnny Walker Red Label on the rocks cut with a little bit of water. It's not very expensive, about $20 a bottle.

Blended or Single Malt?

For blendedyou cant beat Chivas Regal or Johny Walker Black.
Macallan 15 is also very good but its a single malt.

If money isnt an issue I would suggest Johny Walker Blue Label (Find one between $160-200) Very good and super smooth
Single Malt I am a huge Macallan fan. Again if $ isnt an issue I would suggest a Nice Macallan 18 ($120-150)
I personally gave my uncle (huge Mac lover) a bottle of their 30 yr old last year. Shelled out about $1200 for it though.

do they drink scotch? If they do you should ask around and find what brand they drink and get that. I know like bourbon I'd rather have a gallon of beam vs a smaller bottle of high dollar stuff.

disclaimer: I rarely even drink bourbon these days because I learned a long time ago I get in a lot of trouble on a whiskey drunk.
