Best way to remove stickers off side of vehicle

I was just given an older truck that the guy had advertisements down both sides. Most of it is vinyl lettering. All of it is badly weathered though, it won't peel, just tears and breaks. The paint underneath is good so I would not like to scratch it much. Anyone have some good removal tips?

    thanks

Sandpaper. Just stop sandpapering before you get to the paint.

But seriously though, just a hairdryer works for removing the modern GM badges so I imagine it would work on a sticker.

Unless the stickers are made with that facist glue, that only comes off one square millimeter at a time, and leaves all sorts of shit and gunk and stains and fading behind.
