Bad News with the T/A...............
So after finally getting a day off I took the T/A in for the issues i was having the issues with the fan was fixed it tuned out to be a fan relay. The other issues with the miss on cylinder five is internal, also after having the car inspected i was told they heard lower end noise also on the engine. Definately not to happy about this. I have the following questions..........
How much is a mint 1999 T/A WS6 with 125k with this issue worth, should i sell?
How much do new ls1 crates go for?

How about a second opinion before you go smash your piggy bank? Our engines actually tend to be quite long lived with regular maintenance. At the very least pull the No. 5 plug, inspect it, and then do a compression test on the engine. The fact that they "heard" something but did nothing to really diagnose the problem concerns me.

AAG solves all
I think your over stepping yourself here. Do as Jeff said and do a compression test on the suspect cylinder. Simple to do, and shouldnt cost you anything. Rent the tester from ChinaZone.
Can you hear the noise? Get a second opinion, and get one of your own as well.
Good luck.

You could machine the crank, hone the cylinders + new rings and bearings and be good as new for the least money

+1 on a compression test and second opinion. Some companies sell forged shortblocks for around 3K... I would also look into 6.0L truck motors or some junkyards for stock LSX variants.

You need to test a couple of other cylinders to see what they come in at. You are looking for no more than a 10% deviation between all the cylinders if I recall correctly. Should No. 5 in fact be the lowest by more than 10%, you should place a small amount of oil in the cylinder through the spark plug hole and test it again. If the compression rises, then you most likely have a ring sealing issue, broken ring land, etc... If there is no change, it is either a leaking valve seal, excessively worn valve guide, or a valve seat sealing issue. Let us know what you find.

Are'nt ls1's noisy internally any ways?? Piston slap, injector chatter, etc..?? Definetly go for a second oppy. If the tech is'nt all that familier with the ls1 they could be mistaking normal ls1 noise for problems.. 125k does'nt seem like the going due date for a rebuild..imho
