im about to buy my friends 79 z and im swaping the engine and drive line to my car. the z was being builted to race. has a comp cam (490 510 lift?) new piston heads, eddlebrock intake manifold and carb, hooker long tubes, shift kit and rear end work. my friend got the car for 650 a year ago. i rode in it yesterday and it hauls ass. barks the tired through the gears, at 25-30 mph the back wants to go sideways when its floored

Red Fire- 2007 Mustang GT/CS
I used to run avgas in my old 73 Road Runner - Make sure you put something in it - Marvel Mystery oil ( I forget the percentage or ratio now) so it doesn't flash burn the cylinder walls.. At least that's what the guys down at NE Dragway used to tell us..
This was back in the late 80s and I think they told me the fuel I was getting at the Sanford ME airfield was 117 octane
I can tell you that it woke that 340 six pack up in a hurry A friend of mine back then had this 82? Omni TC3 shell with a built 454 in it...I used to "steal" a bit of fuel from him..You had to have a lane permit and racing class license to purchase avgas back then in NE.. So I would pay him some cash and take it when he wasn't looking sorta thing.. I do remember loving the smell of that stuff..

Why? You don't know the compression ratio and if you're going to water it down with 87
anyway, why not just go for 93 pump? You don't have to drive to the airport and pay out the nose for that. If that motor is stock compression, especially with a cam, it can barely even burn 87 to begin with. 8.5:1 doesn't need special fuel. Find out atleast what heads it has for combustion chamber size then figure the pistons out if possible. How do you figure you'll keep the mix right when you have to go to the airport for a half tank then go to the gas station? And make sure you have enough fuel to get there. Unless this isn't a daily driver. If you're just weekend racing it, then go for it.

I work at an airport and thought about running a "blend". But even though its "low lead" 100LL still has a lot of lead in it compared to pump gas. Ive been told not to use it with modern cars because it will coke up the valves. Anyone have any experience with that?

Buddy runs 110 leaded race gas in his 2 stroke banshee. I told him not to due to the lead and the motor being mostly aluminum. Its ran fine for the last few months so......... On cars I heard not to use it due to the O2's being destroyed. Either way, I'm a rookie on this shit.

Leaded fuel is excellent for a banshee. No concern needed there. Even brand new smokers love lead

I run klotz 113 gas in my 450r. I got a shaved head though and high compression piston. It smells so good! Used to run that u4.2 shit, but I thought it was stinky.
