Anyone know any good dog forums?

Looking for some information about dog's & behavior.

My Yellow lab (about a year old) Shits every time she gets in a car.

I got her to take hiking, biking, etc., kind of sucks that I can't take her in the car.

I was smart enough to put a dog crate in the back of the Xterra. So I only had to clean her and that off. Ruined the hike though. Smelled the crap and turned around to go home and wash her & the crate out.

Yes it was! Im too lazy to find it. But damn, that was funny as hell! The leather seats had the perferated (sp) holes in it. And the crap was everywhere. I think he replaced the interior. Wasnt the dogs fault.

Could be nerves and stress. I am assuming that car rides are few.

You should take her for very short trips in the car (In the crate just in case at first) several times a week. Maybe to a park near the house. Play with her at the park for a bit. Give her a treat and take her home again and give her another treat.

That way, if it is nerves, she will soon find out that car trips are safe and that she will always be going back home. If she does well... make the trips a little longer until she feels better about traveling in the car.

Worked for a few dogs of mine that would puke every time we went some where. They'd get all kinds of stressed out and start salivating and ultimately puking everywhere. Sometimes even just taking her around the block everyday for a few weeks will work also. But, the park gives her something to learn to look forward to. Then, just going bye bye should be enjoyable for her with a little time and effort.

    Good luck to you.

Did'nt read all posts. But she's still a young dog probably scared to ride maybe. A good sign of fear would be if she's hard to get in the car. Some dogs just dont like rides too. Could take some time for her get over her fear. Is the car loud? My shepperd is scared to death of my loud Lumina. But has no problem in my quiet Camaro. I dunno, but sounds like there's still some puppy fears there. She'll probably grow out of it with a little more time.

That is very true. For a lot of dogs, the most stressful time they remember is being taken away from their first home, litter mates and Mama. It's a very scary experience for them and I am told that a lasting memory as well. And, it's the car ride that sticks in their memory. So, they associate the car with that stress.

Short frequent trips in the car should help with that.

She jumps right into the back of the Xterra. Wants to go whereever we are. I was thinking about short trips.

May also try to find motion sickness pills. I might call the vet about them.
