anyone else think this is screwed up?

this has all happened over a long course of time but i tried giving the short story even though this is kinda long, so please bear with me

So one of my best friends has been dating this dude she has worked with for almost 2 years now. shes 18 now and he is like 23 or something. maria and i have been pretty good friends for last few years so im really protective of her. when they first started dating everything seemed normal but over the last year and a half or so i noticed things have slowly been going down hill. there were numerous times she would call me in the during of the night crying asking me to come pick her up from his house cuz they got into a fight and he would lock her outside. i kept asking her why she would put up with his shit for so long but she really seemed to like this guy. he is a little punk that thinks he's a gang banger but he's just a piece of shit. and he hates me because she would always call me when they would get into a fight.

so around thanksgiving 2008, they got into a huge fight and she calls me up to talk about it. i got upset with her because they kept fighting and it obviously wasnt working out so i made the comment to her, "well dont call me the next time he breaks ur heart because this is getting old". the very next day she calls me just balling her eyes out and she says that he admitted to cheating on her the week before. i felt like shit for saying the previous said comment but i told her she shouldn't put up with his shit and leave him. i also said that if he had the balls to cheat on her once, then he could do it again. so after some time, she gets back together with him.

a few months later, i start noticing she only calls me when she was in a fight with him. she wont answer her phone for anything else. it turns out he was becoming very controlling and wasn't letting her talk to ANY her friends. so once again last spring, i get another phone call from her when i was on my lunch at work. she's crying.... again.... and she tells me they got into an argument and he hit her. not a closed fist but a very hard slap. i got fuckin PISSED. i almost left work to track him down to beat the shit out him. he put on a show to make it look like he was sorry but everyone knew he wasn't. she's a gorgeous ukranian girl and i told her that he only acted to care about her to keep her around so he would have a nice piece of ass when he wants it. so yeah, i think i talked to her just a couple times over last summer and i thought whatever friendship we had left was over with.

well january of this year comes around and i find out through a friend that she is 2 months pregnant. i call maria's sister, who im also good friends with, and she confirmed it. the next day, maria calls me wanting to meet up. so we go to breakfast and she tells me everything that has happened lately. david cheated on her a couple more times and just became very controlling, even more than before. she told me she left david and that she wanted an abortion. im personally against abortions but i told her that it was her decision to make. we scheduled her appointment at the clinic but i could tell she didnt want to do. so later that day she calls me and says she wanted to give this baby a chance and that she didnt want to give up on this baby just because of him. so i said that her friends and family would be there to support her. this was maybe a month ago.

she quit her job where he worked just to get away from him and she has moved in with her sister and her husband and she has been earning money babysitting for them. she saw david just recently and he told her that when she's all big and pregnant that he's never gonna be home and he's gonna party and talk to other chicks and she wont be able to do anything about it. and now he's saying that she cheated on him and that it's probably not even his kid and he wont be there for any of her appointments or help buy things like a crib or diapers. he called me today to bitch about some stuff and he said they were still together. he ended the phone call saying, "we are still together. we are not done, she will be done with me when im done with her!...click". that really pushed me over the edge

i haven't liked this guy from the time i found out he hit her. he's cheated on her a couple times, tells everyone that she has herpes so they wont talk to her, shown up to her friends house and her dads house in the middle of the night in a drunken rage looking for her, he's hit her, wrecked her car, thrown her purse out of the car window while driving making her lose her phone and her whole paycheck. she's had to ask me for money to help pay for stuff like classes, books, gas, food, and other stuff because he wouldnt spend a dime on her. he has an ass kicking coming

we both care about each other but thats about as far as it goes. her and i decided it was best just to stay friends. so every since then we have just been really close.
