Anyone Else Keep Their Home Defence Handgun Loaded with Glasers?
http://www.dakotaammo.net/products/glaser/glaser.htm
What's your opinion on them for in home self defense? Especially in an apartment building.
I always have my .357 mag snubbie loaded with Glaser Blue .38 +P.

Those glasers look like they would tear up the rifling in the barrel. A good hollow-point round won't go through a person.
My dad has some actual shotgun type rounds for his .45. Not sure where the box of ammo is, so I can't exactly say what it is. But, it doesn't have the regular bullet head, it has buckshot type stuff in it. Never shot them though.

Only the Wife & I. No Kids. She has had self defense handgun training with the .38, .357, & 9mm. I'm Military trained combat veteran with Marksmanship in the M16, M9, & 12 guage w/00 buck, combat training on M16 with M203, & M60. I've popped a few rounds in my time.
Rule 1: Always assume the weapon is loaded
Rule 2: Never point at anything you don't intend to shoot
Rule 3: Verify your target
Rule 4: Verify what's down range of your target.
Last time went shopping for Ammo, got the +P+'s at WalMart, been a while though, don't know if they still sell them.Last edited by RainMan; 01-26-2006 at 06:37 PM.

This guy tested a boat load of bullets and found that all hollow tips went through full water jugs and multiple walls.

Several years ago while stationed in Arizona, some guys from my unit & I went out to the mountains west of Phoenix for target practice. One brought an SKS assault rifle. We set up a 1 gallon water jug on top of an old abandoned console TV (one of those old 70's style big suckers). I took my turn and at 50 yards nailed the jug. The jug disintegrated and ripped the top of the TV console to shreds! Like a bomb went off. . Wow, what a gun!

Looks like they bought Glaser recently or something.
I use the conventional JHP's in my .45, .357 or .38 spc. Depending on how I dress or more importantly, where I'm going...

The Corbon disintegrated and we just found pieces of copper jacket and shards of lead. No ricochets or nothing.. Fucking tile was everywhere. My buddy was sitting on my couch and he was covered in dust and had tile chips all in his hair. We even found tile in bedrooms down the hall that had the doors closed.
Not that that compares with sheet rock walls or anything...

I really prefer a "less than lethal" or at least less likely to be lethal alternative ammunition. I'm not out to mess someone up as bad as possible, I just want to stop them from hurting me or my family

Hope you get a head shot cause if the intruder has body armor on those rounds don't have any chance at penetration. Least a traditional JHP has a better chance of penetration....and higher grains for knockdown power. I'd rather be sued than dead...but that's just me

some of you guys are fug-king crazy, I guess you'd keep a few 30 round mags locked and loaded in your M4 clone if you were allowed to have them in cali huh? Are you expecting a full blown home invasion or what?
I live in 1000sq ft apartment, with 2 sheets of dry wall between me and the neighbors, similar to most apartment buildings, I'd hate to step out of my bed room, half awake, blast off a few rounds and find out they over penitrated and went sailing into the neighbors apartment. In close quarters battle situations you want to keep it simple, know your geometry and penatration factors as to not kill friendlys. Roll through a few sinarios just for fun, I did it with my wife, my crimsontrace laser sites are zero'd at 12yards, the distance from the bed room door to the kitchen wall, being against the left wall and aiming to the right is preferred as over penetration will put the round in the neighbors kitchen not thier bedroom. Keep in mind my wife is active duty so it's not as strange to her.
My first choice is .45acp with 230 ball & a surefire, second is the 9mm with crimsontrace grips. If some nut case is wearing body armor he won't be standing up after takeing one to the chest, if he's still holding a gun, I'll double tap him to the head while he's down. I've seen Marines take 7.62, to the sappi plate, it spins or knocks your a$$ down.
Don't get crazy in Cali, you have to prove "you were in fear of your life", so if homie doesn't have a gun, or a weapon... you can't shoot his a$$, untill phyiscally attacked, but if you walk in on a rape or knowing that rape will occour, you can shot his a$$ no questions asked.
BTW: dead men don't tell stories, so do it right the first time vs. spending time in court.
