Any Kimber fans here?
I've been thinking about picking up a Kimber Pro Carry or a Tactical Pro II but I don't know alot about that brand. Alot of people seem to like them but I've always been a Springfield fan when it comes to 1911s. I looked at Wilson Combat and Les Baer pieces but DAMN those are expensive as hell!! Thoughts?

LOVE the Kimbers but i bought a Para 1911, felt better to me. it wasnt cheap either, $900 its a full size i dont care for the compact jobs. a wilson combat is a great gun but the $$$$ is a real shock. the Las Baers are great guns as well but the price thing again comes to mind. but you get what you pay for in most cases, a decent 1911 is going to run you some heavy dough.

I have handled and shot a few Kimbers...but never owned one. IMHO, Kimbers are fine firearms but you pay more than they are worth. Basically, you are buying a nice gun and a nice name. I think there are plenty of 1911s that are same quality that can be had cheaper.
One I highly recommend is a Dan Wesson Pointman 1911. I bought mine a couple years ago for $640 and it shoots as good as any Kimber. On top of that, it needed no work out of the box. The trigger was excellent (best stock hand gun trigger I have ever felt) and it had nice sights. They are typically a matte finish and not flashy like the Kimbers, but I wouldn't trade it for a Kimber.

I have a Kimber Ultra CDP and it is an awesome gun. That being said I also had an Eclipse Ultra that was a total POS. Kimber ended up replacing it with the CDP after months of headaches and several trips to Yonkers for repairs. They make great guns, but just like anything else there are bad ones. Their customer service is great though. I agree with RichieB16 right now the best bang for the buck in the 1911 world is Dan Wesson. Decent prices for guns that are made better than Kimber and Springfield. No cheap MIM parts at all in a DW. All steel parts from Ed Brown, etc. I really want a DW Classic Bobtail.

Glocks are for fags and women I've owned a Glock 19 and 23 but I just don't like them. I have a .45 Springfield XD which I like alot but that thing is sooooo heavy with a full mag. MUCH better quality than a Glock or S&W M/P.

Kimber is what I stand by and use as my personal carry weapon. I have had NO troubles with my gun and it shoots great. My friend has a Springfield .45 and it is not nearly as smooth or accurate. Kimber all the way.

I've shot several Kimbers and really like them, never shot any other kind of 1911. Are you wanting to use this as a carry piece or home defense? I ask this because you were griping about how heavy the XD. I think the first rule of thumb is to find a gun that fits your hand and just feels good, then worry about the rest.

Black/Screaming Yellow- 99 S/C TA WS6 & 04 Cobra
Kimbers are nice but they are very pricey! I prefer the Springfield Armory Tactical model. It shoots just the same if not better than my buddy's Kimber Custom and was about $500 less. Plus mine came with a Bar Sto barrel and I worked the trigger some more myself to fit my standards.

I was until I shoot the Kimber and the Para Ordnance at the same time comparing them.
I carry a P-14 Limited and have for 9-10 years now. I love it. And the newer LDA's there is NO comparison on the market on the smoothness of that DA trigger pull.

I know I already mentioned the Dan Wesson. But, if I really wanted to spend Kimber money on a 1911 I would just buy a nice Colt Series 80 Government and do some custom work to it. That way it would be a real Colt 1911 and would be customized to exactly what you want. It would probably cost about the same. I have 2 1911s...a Colt Commander and the Dan Wesson Government and I love them both.
