put as much as you can in it while you are young. It reduces your taxable income so you end up paying less tax annually and with a normal, non aggressive, investement strategy will end up compounding in value many times over by the time you are old enough to withdraw from it without penalty. You can also use it as emergency lending should you find yourself in financial trouble AND you can use it to make essentially a tax free down payment on a first home.....

I started today and im putting in $350 a month about 9% of my monthly salary what should i expect ?

I got mine when I was 19...they told me I didn't need to have one till I was 25 realistically. My company matches what you put in dollar for dollar up to 1000 bucks a year. So why not...tax free, free money. All I will say is you are young, BE AGRESSIVE, BEE EEE Agressive! I have one fund that is yielding 92%! Going for riskiest shit I can find. You will lose from period to period but no worries. Social Security isn't gonna do shit for you, so good thing you are starting now.

Younger you are, the more aggressive you can afford to be. It pays off huge in the long term. Mutual Funds like never loose but they yield very very little. Also, diversify out the ass!

Buy low, sell high. Go for stocks that are absolute shit, and sell the ones you have that are taking off. It's made me a killing.
