Any bird owners?
I am looking into getting a african grey. I had smaller birds when i was younger, but nothing real big. Just checking to see what you guys have and think about them.

We have a big Blue and Gold Macaw, and all he does is SCREAM and SCREAM, and when you think he’s done he SCREAMS some more.
We have a huge bird stand for him in the living room, and when he screams, I go over and try to play with him, and he always bites the shit out of me.
So I’ve decided to just leave him alone.
Other than the screaming and the biting, they’re fun to have. LOL
They do pick up talking rather quickly, and can be funny sometimes.
We’ve had him since he was a little baby, and now he’s 6 years old.
They said the reason he is so bad is because he is only 6. We have to wait another 4 or 5 years for him to “mature”.

That’s not nice. LOL
Also, to the original poster, just because my bird is bad doesn’t mean they all are.
All birds are different.
Some can be great, while others can be annoying.
My advice is to get one that is already “matured”.
Like they told us (after we already got the little bastard), over 10-12 years old.

Shhh! There's a- hooker in the trunk
i agree with the screaming part, i would go insane if i had a bird like that. my gf has one that screams all the time and when i dog sit for her i want to shoot myself in the head. also, with large birds like this, you need to keep them entertained and they usually bond to one person. if he becomes bored he will start to pluck all of his feathers out on his chest and start to self mutilate. sounds fun huh? anyways, if you have lots of time go for it! not the animal for me though... plus theyre expensive to buy!

ya that too, cooking with teflon will kill your bird, they are extremely sensitive to it

My mom had birds in when I was growing up.. Parrots, Macaw's, Cockatoo, etc...
But my thoughts are: Why have an animal that you force to live in a small cage?
If you have a full size atrium (spelling?) that is one thing, but a small cage-- seems like torture.
From what I remember African Grey's are very smart, (for birds) and have a fairly decent vocabulary.

I know African Greys are the smartest of all birds. They can learn colors, shapes, words, pretty much anything you want to teach them. Check out PetStar the show, probably on Youtube, the African Grey mimics other animals for crying out loud. If I had the money I would get one. What is better then having a bird back talk you with cuss words, fucking classic.
