Any AC guys out there
My Mom has a Trane .XL 1200 Serial # K22305R2H and was told that the Fan Pump is out and it would cost about 800.00 bucks, does that sound right

Fan motor's should not cost that much. Thats a residential packaged unit if I'm not mistaken. If the fan motor was going bad it wouldn't be blowing air from the fan very hard. If that fan motor is bad the unit would be able to remove heat from the coolant lines.

No fan motor in a packaged residential unit is going to cost $800 bucks. How much is he charging you to put it in?

so you mean the blower motor? it's the unit that is in the house? so basically no air is coming from there, if thats the case no, cost should be about 350-400 those motors generaly are about 120.

just got off the phone with her and she said that it's the fan motor that pushes the heat to the inside. This thing is huge there is only a outside unit nothing inside at all.

I was quoted about $600 to replace the blower motor last year. Coldest f'in week of the year in fl and the blower motor goes out. I ended up doing it myself the motor was just under $200 3/4hp motor online no one in town had a 3/4hp motor in stock. Where they come up with $400 for labor is beyond me it took me all of an hour to do. Mind you I have zero experience doing such work. The a/c guy was cool though he did help me out, the new motor was not exactly the same had a few extra wires coming out of it that threw me off, but he showed me how to wire it up. He still charged $60 for him to come out and look at it but better than burning up a $200 motor wiring it the wrong way.

there has to be something inside, its called an air handler and also where the backup heat strips are located along with the indoor coil, and blower motor. nothing really pushes the air inside, everything is carried in coolant lines that run from the indoor coil to the outdoor coil or outside unit that you are seeing. best thing would be to take a picture of what he is replacing and then i can help, or call a second opinion in on it man.

Actually I think that unit is all contained in an outdoor unit and the only thing that connects to it is the duct. I dont have a clue what a blower motor would cost for a unit like that.

variable speed motors are more of a commercial thing?. Are you in the mechanical contracting business?

Yeah ours def isn't. I haven't dealt with anything residential in....since I was about 17 really. I'm more onto the centrifigul, screw chillers, and cooling tower side of the business now. Hell there are some AHU's outside of my office that we are about to put on a building that you literally walk in.
