Another LS1.com first?
Last year when I dumped the clutch and snapped my rear lugs off, I believe I was the first on here to have done that with an ls1.
Well, yesterday, EXACT same intersection. Comming the other way this time. I dumped the clutch and POP! Drive shafted twisted and snapped in half. Damn aluminum pos. Also, kinda sucks my muffler is mounted right next to where it snapped off. It really beat the shit out of it. lulz
They said they are going to have a brand new one made, so I am missing a lot of school in the mean time. =(
I don't know whether or not to be depressed or happy, I mean, how many 4 banger ricer people can say they've snapped a driveshaft in half? Usually the u-joint goes.

Various engine mods, but I think it's the wide ass tires on the rear. Too much bite. I guess when you have to grind down bump stops and do the BFH mod to make a tire fit, it is a good sign that your car may not be able to handle it.
And yeah, that intersection has hellah good traction.

Damn, are you atleast running drag radials to do that. It would be nice if the formula hooked up that way and that's in cold weather too

Just regular tires. They are uber soft though. Last set I only got about 10,000 miles before tread was gone.
On a side note, when I get there, if it doesn't have weights welded on to it, can I assume they never balanced it? Or do they balance it on a lathe taking weight off in areas?

Plenty of stock driveshafts have broken. Even though the stock yoke is a 1310, usually is breaks in the middle, not at the joint. Sucks to hear, but it could have been worse.

You're lucky. A friend of mine sent his driveshaft through his floor/back seat of his 80 Z-28. Took the car to the track, staged, launched, slicks bit...HARD, then "BOOM!"

He had been modding it for months and built up the motor and went with a six speed manual trans. Driveshaft loop as well. He forgot the rear. Broke the axle tubes from the pumpkin sending it pointing skyward. I think he changed the diff as well, just the welds on the stock rear couldn't take it. When we hung out in Albany, NY last August, we remenisced about that incident and he said "WELP, IT WAS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE." He shrugged and we all ed.

What horse power would you say a stock drive shaft is rated for?

Stock power, plus cam give or take IMO
M6 owners have broken them with stock power. I wouldn't chance it really. Especially with no DS safety loop. Strange, PST etc all make a very nice DS. Thread on this site where the member broke his with 400 HP. Ive read lots of threads though of people breaking them for no good reason. Sometimes they just, let go.
