Another accident report...now considering modifications
Update due to change in story
Long story, but on Friday I was on the 101 and there was a bedliner in my lane. The guy in front of me was trying to get in the middle lane but swerved away last second so as soon as it was in front of me was as soon as I knew it. I attempted to swerve out of the way to the right, but I tapped it (no biggie there). As I corrected to the left back into my lane I realized I fishtailed a little, but getting back in the lane my car started fishtailing clockwise. I countersteered but it was at the point of no return. I went flying off the highway (literally, there was no tire marks down the 6 foot ditch I went in), landed and slid into a barbed wire fence. One barb went under the car and slashed 3 of my tires and wound up against my passenger side, another on the drivers side that probably slowed me down. I also took out 1 or 2 of its poles. I've got 3 flats, an exhaust that got ripped off after the muffler, a body kit in peices, busted fenders, and scratches throughout the whole car.
The car is considered a total loss due to the damage. I'm now considering in buying it back from the insurance company and fixing it up. So long as there is no suspension damage I think it could be done. Any opinions?

That sucks dude...same shit happened to my 92 silverado. Damn thing was in mint condition and only had 80k on the clock...bent the fender/hood/radiator support pretty good and they totaled it I bought it back from them but it still sucks because i'll never be able to sell her for any decent price someday.
Are you going to buy your maro back?

I'm considering it. What I know it needs it 3 new rims, new tires, 2 new sideskirts, 2 new front valences, 2 new fenders, a new paintjob, and new exhaust pipes after the muffler.
The insurance quoted me $11,000 in damages prior to even looking under the car. If there's frame or underbody damage then the bill could rise.
Here's my list, If I can buy the shit back for $2000 I think I'd be pretty content. It's got 70,000 miles with a new high end 4L60E, new waterpump, battery, and alternator. I think it's got some life left in it for at least the next 3 years.
paint - $4000?
driver front fender - $75
driver rear fender - $75
rims & tires - $1200
wet-sand the scratches off the headlight - $0
fix exhaust - $100
control arms - $100
PHB - $120
springs - ?
shocks - ?
AND now onto the things that I'd like to change about the car
SS hood - $ 450
fix stereo - $500
fix seat belt loops - $25
bend back passenger seat? - ??? (I tried already, I have a friend that's 400+ lbs and I think he bent the frame of the seat)
Oh yea. The fucking insurance company is claiming it a collission accident. I already contested that and they said they'd change it but it's still marked as collission and now liability (property damage). My claims adjuster is a bitch so I think she changed it back....so far the cop, tow truck drivers, insurance, and even friends asked me how fast was I going like I was doing 150 MPH like a dumbass. Whether I was goin 45 or 150 there was a fucking bedliner in my lane because fucking Californians use the highways as their personal dumpster and nobody is responsible for cleaning it up! I mean I've avoided garbage, wood, sheets of steel, a mattress, and even tumbleweed on the highway.

I ran over a ladder on the freeway once but I was in my truck. If your insurance company is screwing you fight it. Mention the "California department of insurance" and the BBB to them, they will be a little nicer then.

Well here's the offer on the table...$13775 if i call it quits...less $1300 if I buy it back. I THINK all it needs is a new paintjob, 2 new fenders, and 4 new wheels.

Are you unable to pay for a newer car? I mean...that's a lot of money to put back into the car. I personally would rather let her go and just buy another one, instead of paying to fix up everything and getting it back without REALLY knowing the extent of the damage.

Yea, the paint shop just made a good point about the door panels being off and alignment between the front fender and hood...damn I guess I don't wanna let it go. My 1st car that I put $$$ into that I won't see again...but hey I guess I can't complain about negative depreciation. I bought it for $11995 and they valued it @ $14775 2 years and 24,000 miles later.
