    Anorexia - I just don't get it.

I watched a show on the National Geographic channel a few nights ago on Anorexia and I just don't get it. Not to sound like a jerk, but seriously, how hard is it to eat a cheese burger? These people know they have a problem, and are about to die from it, and all they need to do is go to Five Guys, or maybe get some frozen yogurt with chocolate sprinkles. It really doesn't seem like that big of an issue - I just don't get it.

It's psychological and unless you suffer from it, you wouldn't get it. Are you addicted to porn? If so, you know that's also a problem, right? Then why not do something about it if you know it's a problem?

Exactly, how would any of us get it unless we had the problem. I don't understand alcoholics, most of them are ruining their lives and their health and will someday die from it. They know its bad for them and that it will kill them someday but they still do it.

True, but the smokers that started years ago didn't really know it was deadly and by then they were physically addicted. Still they should quit now that they know it is deadly. When I started 8 years ago I knew it could cause cancer and other complications but I was a dumbass 17 year old. I finally quit a year and a half ago.

I think the most harmful addiction of all time has got to go to the uncontrollable desire to watch Jersey Shore.

I would agree with this statement for anyone that started prior to 1965 when the Surgeon General warnings became required on all cigarette packs. After that no one can make me believe that they "didn't know".

My mom is a chronic smoker, she used to smoke like a chimney, always said it was her release from the stress of being a nurse My sister, dad, and I never have, we've tried to get her to quit and she has at least cut back some, but still does it. Can't stand to be around 'em. I hate getting into an elevator with a smoker, kicks my asthma off, something I used to never have an issue with.

Seriously, the only thing easier than eating a cheeseburger is not eating a cheeseburger so it should be even easier not to be fat, right?

My OBGYN in 1984 told me I couldn't smoke more than 10 cigarettes a day. So, I spaced them out. But he did say no alcohol. It was a long nine months

It is pyschological, sad disease. It's not an easy thing to kick. A friend of mine's daughter fought it and is on the road to recovery. I, like many thought the " I beat anorexia" t-shirt was funny. Now, I do not think it is funny. It's a sickness, like tobacco, alcohol, or drug abuse. People who have that go through crap I am glad to not experience.

No disrespect to any of those who posted...

It's a self-image issue. They think it looks good, and it's the only way they can feel good about themselves.
