Alice in Chains return w/ new Music

It's nice to have AIC back. To me they are more relevant than Nirvana and Soundgarden.

Layne unfortunately lost his battles with his demons. But it's great that they are back... the guitars sound pissed and ready to kick ass. I hate all these modern bands like Godsmack and such... totally doing a half-assed Alice in Chains imitation.

yeah, that's rocking right there. Who's the new singer? They surprisingly didn't lose as much sound wise as I thought they would. He had a very unique sound.

I saw the originals very last concert (I think). They opened for KISS in Kansas City. Basically stood at the mic, sang, never moved and the mocked the song Beth which I found funny. Guess Gene and the boys did not, they were fired from the tour and soon one was dead.

Gotta say I did not care for them then but I really like them a lot now after giving them a listen and purchasing the best of CD. Ready for the new stuff too.

You suck pond water. Well, I guess I can compete. I'm going to see Paul McCartney (2nd time) next month and then U2 in October.

Layne Staley was the frontman and he died of a drug overdose in 2002. The band was on hiatus for several years and now have a new frontman in William DuVall, for their latest album. I feel Jerry Cantrell has always been the real brains behind the band. So as long as he's there, that classic AIC sound will remain strong.

although I agree that cantrell is a bad mofo I still think a huge chunk of AIC's sound was Staley's vocal harmonies. He used his voice as an instrument kinda like Plant did with Zepplin.

I'm not taking anything away from Staley at all. Those two started the band and were the principle song writers. I'm simply saying, without both of those guys, AIC wouldn't have that classic feel/sound they've always been known for. If it had been Cantrell who had died, I'd be saying the same thing in Staley's favor.

I'm a metal newbie haven't been listening to this stuff that long only about a year and a half and i like it a lot and probably have heard of every band that you all have...

    AIC is badass

Newbie question though... I'm guessing Layne was the lead singer for this band a while back what happened to him??
