    Thumbs up Akira (2009)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1134795/

I really cant see how they could fuck this movie up. Then again, Hollywood could fuck up a cup of coffee.

As long as they keep it dark, then it should be a given.

The biggest thing I fear is if they film it LIKE a cartoon...if that makes sense.

Yeah, I know what you mean... That would be terrible

It either needs to be dark like you said or animated like the original...

No what I mean is...with technological advances today, they are blending real life and animation. Theyve been doing it for years, but take the new Speed Racer coming out, for example. This looks too mixed.

Live action should mean exactly that, live action. No CGI domiance, no artistic + pointless scenes, just the basics. Its just not needed, especially for this story.

i knew someone would say that eventually. he's a really good actor and has alot of range, i think anything he does, he makes a good movie. big plus if they get him in it.

I think it is decent choice.

As long as it is a dark story the hollywood treatment should (hopefully) not ruin it...

Besides being an academy award winner, hes done some awesome roles already that fit toward this.

The Beach, Basketball Diaries, he even did a decent job in Gangs of New York...which was his worst.

Then you got Gilbert Grape (the one he won), Catch Me If You Can and jesus, The Aviator! He was even good as a younger boy in This Boy's Life I think it was called.

The kid has got some talent. Honestly, I can see him doing either role, Tetsuo or Kenada.
